Hi All,

I have had lots of issues with the car over the last 6 months and then about 2 weeks ago the car started and then shut down completely (no power at all). After taking the key out and putting it back in it worked.

Then a few times over the last few weeks I have put the key in, gone to start it and it revs but then cuts out. Finally yesterday the car would not start at all.

I opened it up to take a quick look and it seems that the clip on the batter lead (to connect the battery to the car) is very loose. I then tightened it up as best I could and the car was fine.

So I seem to have found the issue (I assume the vibrations sometimes cause it to disconnect). It seems the clip is on its way out as the grip is not very tight even after I have adjusted it.

Does anyone know where I can get a new clip/lead from or how I can adjust it to make it more stable.

Any advice appreciated.

The stock positive connector is crap.

I cut mine off (the ring/clamping part/mechanism that goes around the battery post), leaving as much of the solid metal, bent piece that connects to the wire - approximately level with the edge of the battery casing in this pic:
 




Then clamped the bent piece in the part intended for wire on one of these:

 


These or something close to them should be available from any car parts/accessories store.

If the store sells them separately, be aware the inner diameter is slightly different for positive / negative terminal (Positive is larger)

Thanks very much for that. They had some in eurocar parts so I have bought one and will connect it this weekend.

The quick-release pole connector is a safety device and is an extremely usefull thing to have generaly.

I guess you mean safety as in a no-tools (no risk of shorts) way to disconnect the battery? If other, could you expand? Curious...

But I still consider it crap - I had it vibrate loose a number of times until I changed it - never did anything bad to it, no extra wires jammed in and just a few dis/re-connects, still it came loose.

As it is, my battery has a plastic flap/lid over the + terminal and I know which terminal to connect/disconnect first to minimize risk.

Battery quick release was more for the 307, 406, 407, 607 & 807 which had a habit of catching fire thanks to various electrical short circuits Wink

If all the recall's have been carried out the fire risk is sorted.

Ah, yes - now I remember that the 307 had that little issue... didn't know that the other models were affected also.

I think the quick-release was introduced as a way of disconnecting the battery in an emergency like a bad crash, with occupants stuck inside the car.

In-fact, I remember when I was very young (around 6) there was exactly this situation where my Grandad was trying to cut the cable on an overturned/mangled car which we came accross, with loads of people looking-on etc.

He didn't manage it but it was OK in the end and the occupants were 'alright' when they cut them out.
