I no this is probs a stupid qustion but can i put a gti gearbox on my 1.4 8v engine

With a lot of work for a backwards effect then yes,
Otherwise just get a replacement 1.4 box there's plenty available

i was jw my friend is breaking a 206 gti and asked if i wanted any bits i thought it would of been better than a 1.4 but i see it aint

Nope, 2 completly different boxes, the 1.4 runs a MA box where as the GTi run's a BE box, bell housings are different, and the ratio's are completly different. Your 1.4 would seriously struggle to accelerate with a GTi box.
