I'd been driving in my 52 reg 206 today for about 10 minutes when my dashboard died for 15 seconds - all the needles dropped to zero, the mileage turned to -------- and most of the warning lights all came on at once. Then, they all kicked back in. The engine didn't cut out and there was no loss of power. The radio continued playing all through this. Any ideas what caused it? I'm assuming it's some type of electrical fault...
All help is appreciated!

Use the search function at top Left. You will find many threads with similar issues.
Earth strap, comms unit, BSI reset, code scan the car, etc etc
Don't expect to join the forum do no work yourself and be fed all the answers. The more knowledgeable long term members on here will not respond to your post unless it looks like you have at least done a search and checked the results against your issue and you are still unable to resolve it

That's a fair point, Tolkein. I've now had a search, but not really none the wiser. A lot of suggestions about earth straps, but the procedure for checking this and doing a soft reset are beyond my abilities. Would having a battery test performed at somewhere like Halfords indicate anything?

Keep digging??
Search for earth strap. You will find threads on it and then be able to check. Then search for BSI reset you will find the step by step guide. It's all here buddy. Just got spend time looking and reading. Using the guides on here I have changed my comms unit, front discs send pads, track rod ends, fog lights, front grille etc etc. most of the answers are there....

Sorry to be blunt, but not sure if you read my previous post:

I guess from the search I performed it could be the earth strap, but none of the threads I went through matched my issue 100%, so I'm still none the wiser. Will get my battery tested tomorrow though. There were no faults a few months ago and had 67% charge. Apart from that I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

Either the battery, or earth strap from the battery to the gearbox has broken/corroded.

Yes I did read it. What I am saying is the answer is on this site. As said above most likely the earth strap. Just check it. It could be lose of corroded. If you are unable to even do that take it to a garage to be checked or code read etc.

And some users have been here 2 mins and think they know it all! Sounds like a fault with the speedo, rather than earth fault. Earth would affect more than speedo dials. Have you moved them at all recently?

Could just be a simple lack of communication on the CAN from the BSI to the instrument cluster.

Thanks for the replies, people.
I haven't touched the speedos at all, so not sure if that puts them in the clear as regards the fault.
The earth strap keeps getting brought up, so maybe it's worth investigating.
Haven't had the fault reoccur yet, but will keep an eye on it for now.
