Air bag light on my car, scan it with peugeot planet and it show the following fault on the air bag system:

'permanent fault. level of driver module level 1. Short circuit'

I have tried to reset the fault code but the light come back on again afer 5 seconds.

I have checked the sockets under the seats even cleaned the sockets connecting to the airbag ECU but no joy.

Any help will be appreciated, my car model will be 206cc allure (2004).

Try the connection block under the steering wheel, it will be a white block with a orange cable going to it. Might be loose,

Okay a Long shot bit it's worked for me.
Turn off the car on so it flashes up then off then put the key in the airbag slot and turn it off
Turn car on and off again while the airbag key is off. Then return the airbag key to on.
Sorry I can't explain it any better but this worked for me in the past Smile

Firstly I hope you're messing with the connections after disconnecting the battery.

Secondly, resetting the light won't do anything until the fault is fixed.

Try what Iain says, but get ready to shell out for a new comm 2000 unit as it's very likely that this is on the way out.

Many thanks for the advice!

Will give it a try today. Any idea if the air bag wire ring can be replace seperately or i have to replce the whole com unit?

Update!

I double checked all the connection under the under the steering wheel column and clean it with electrical contact cleaner but still no joy.

Unable to remove the air bag from the steering wheel. Can see a access hole underneath but unable to unlock it with a flat screw. I will be grateful if anyone can guide me on this. Tried to find the instruction on haynesmanual but no joy.

It's quite easy but looks baffling when you've never done it before. The metal "hook" you see is part of a long stiff wire clip. To make it release then you push the metal "hook" up towards the centre of the steering wheel. It'll be quite stiff, I think I used an allen key to get the right angle

You can see the wire clip which when pushed up releases the airbag unit

you can see the two L shaped retaining lower lugs which will be released on the airbag unit here and there are two near the top. The wire clip releases all of them

Update!!!

First of all many thanks to all the guidance and help you guys!

Manage to fixed the airbag light with the removal and cleaning of com2000 unit. Spent 30 minutes removing air bag unit, steering wheel and then finally the com2000 unit from the car.

Spent another hour to strip the unit and clean it with electrical contact cleaner. Manage to improve the movement for both of the stalkes by cleaning and regrease the moving parts.

Then another 30 minutes to put the com2000 back together, then the steering wheel and airbag unit. When restart the car, the air bag light just when off everytime when i start up the car.

Run a sytem scan with peugeot planet and it can't detect and fault at all. 2 hours spent and problem solved without replacing the com2000 unit, Happy Days!

Hi all,

I have a same problem to my peugeot 206 Zest 3. The airbag light has been on for the last two years and because it did not stop me from driving, I did not bother to fix it. Not until my MOT failed for this reason two days ago! The MOT tester quote me a price of £215 + £45 +VAT (new ECU + programming fee + VAT) just to get rip of the airbag light from the dashboard! Before I let myself being ripped off by the vampire-liked MOT tester, I try my luck to search on the internet and see if there is any other solution to it. Thanks god that I find this site!

Kit325, from your last post looks like you have found a solution to make the airbag warning light disappear few seconds after you start the engine. Can you teach me how to do that? Would be great if in a step-by-step order with photos because I'm not really good in mechanic.

One more information ( just in case I miss something here), the airbag light has been on since I had an accident few years ago but the airbag did not come out. The repair centre which repaired my car told me that they couldn't find a solution to make the light disappear so they gave up, but insist that my car is roadworthy and will pass the MOT (back then). Now, thinking back, could it be the case that my airbag ECU has been spiked and need a re-programmed?

Can someone please help me? My MOT due in 4 days and I don't mind paying to anyone who can solve this for me as long as it won't cost too much. I live at Leeds. Thanks!
