Ive read every post on this god damn exhaust manifold heat shield rattle and all the posts seem to be about the heat shield that covers the top of the exhaust manifold its driving me nuts! i have tightened all the bolts on the heat shield ontop of the manifold it its still rattling! i believe the rattle is coming from underneath the exhaust manifold at what looks to be another heat shield. its an absolute pig to get at on the gti 180 does anyone know how to get at it to tighten it up?

I think you mean the one that goes around the cat.

Mine was seam welded onto the cat and it snapped on one side so I used a big jubilee clamp around the whole thing.

HOWEVER it turned out it was actually the inside of the cat rattling as it was knackered.

Thanks for the help!

Here is the link to the picture imgur.com/Q0Fe3N8

This second heat shield runs underneath the exhaust manifold and over the top of both Drive Shaft each side. as its under the manifold and before subframe (inbetween them both) i cant see where this is held down to tighten it up?

i could but i dont know where its held down i cant see any bolts. i would rather keep it there if possible as car manufactures spend alot of money on making sure their cars work properly. Im pretty sure they wouldn't put a useless object on the car if its going to cost them money and not do anything.
