Hi all.

My exhaust manifold has been rattling for a couple of years now and getting considerably worse. Recently my exhaust is sounding a lot louder under mid/ hard acceleration from the front. (I do need to check the clamp between the Manifold and Cat to see if anything is escaping).

Anyways, I've bought another Manifold and plan to get this switched out, I will also get the sections welded up inside before installation.

I doubt I’ll have an issue removing the 8 bolts which hold it on, but wondered what issues people here have been up against?

Do I need undo the engine mounts to move the engine forward to bring the mani out from the top or can it be achieved with the engine in place?

Also, is it good practice to replace the manifold gasket and have some studs and nuts on standby?

well you need to do all this work after having the nuts soaked with DW40 for over a night,so that you don't break any of them in the engine block.
It would be better to have a new gasket,as with time,and heat,it get old,so a new one would be a good idea.

Mostyou will have to remove to gain better access is the cam covers new gasketsyes but studs should be fine

I oonly had trouble when refitting the cat to the mani as it kept slipping out of line

Cam covers don't need removing. Loosening the top engine mount will allow a bit of movement. Moving the coolant reservoir might be useful...as with the battery of course. Don't forget to support the engine from underneath.

You can probably get away without removing the mount but it will definitely give you more space. The mount under the ECU is the one that can be removed.

If the nuts are still tight even after soaking it might be an idea to run the engine for a while to heat it up and expand the metal a little...make sure youve got some heavy gloves on after tho because everything will burn you too..

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm going to ring pug tomorrow to see if they have the gasket and a couple of other bits; new clamp and couple of nuts and a bolt in case things go bad.

On a side note, I think alligning the Cat will be testing, should I aquire some exhaust paste to help seal the join?

Definately...and get the white stuff in the red tube,its smoother paste(not sure on maker but holts maybe right)and not the tinned one because its a smoother join to seal rather than a space to fill where the tinned one may be better..

Don't use any kind of exhaust paste/sealant pre cat. It can cause you a lot of problems later on with premature failure.
As long as the surfaces are clean and free from pitting, then the normal Peugeot gaskets are fine to create an air tight seal.

Cheers guys, I have read mixed opinions wheather to apply paste to the gasket between the mani and cat.

As mines currently leaking/ loose it didn't seem like a bad shout to smear a small amount around the gasket.

There's no need for sealant between manifold and cat. Euro Car Parts sell manifold gaskets and you might get it faster too.

Last time i renewed my cat/front pipe,because the exshausts made these days are just churned out there is unfortunately some discrepancy in the exshausts dimensions and fittings so last time i changed mine i tried it dry and it leaked so i put a thin layer on the join and its been fine ever since...

In fact it was never gonna fit clean dry because u could see easily that the faces of the join were dented and wrong.
