so,im now looking to get to the bottom of the last of the niggles with the gti, had few options come up but wondered which way you guys would sway with the following:
lambda 1 voltage.....all over the place between 0.100 and briefly flickers to 0.600mv
lambda 2 voltage... 0.600mv fluctuating slightly
longterm fuel trim 14.8
short term fuel trim -28
all taken at idle relatively cold but at low idle 850ish.
has obd p0170 (fuel trim bank 1 lean) and i've been blaming ehaust mani leak but now i've seen its actually lambda 1 that seems to be giving the lean running code,im thinking just a plain old pre-cat lambda gone? not happy because the thing did not want to come out last time i tried.
think im on the right lines?

What program did you use to get the lambda values?
I haven't been able to get much data out of my PP2000.
Emission system = no connection (lambda maybe under this?)
Ignition system = no connection
Fuel injection, air intake, driving all have almost every sensor just "???".
Even if engine speed and coolant temp shows on other categories, they are just shown as "???" on others.
Maybe faulty reader or faulty install or not compatible with win7? Argh.
To answer your question, seems like a dodgy lambda to me.

its a handheld device, gives code and description, along with live data aswell. i thought lambda too, mate gonna whack it up on ramps see if he has any more luck finding a leak than i did first as it would make sense that its blowing but exhaust and centre pipe are def sealed up tight, and the leak would cause erratic lambda read out going lean/rich as it compensates for it

Exhaust mani leak would still have the lambdas showing these off readings...If there is a manifold leak, that needs sorting before you will get true readings anyway!!

Note: Lambda should fluctuate quite quickly between about 0.1V and 0.7V. A steady lambda is wrong!

Think you should read how lambdas work. There's nothing wrong with them.
