Hi There,
I'm experiencing an odd problem with my pug out of the blue.
Turning the key threw positions one and two is fine, but turning it into the 3rd position (start the engine) is very stiff and it sometimes gets stuck beyond position 3 and the engine makes a horrible "grinding" sounds.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what might cause it to be sticking?

May need a new ignition barrel. Easier and cheaper to change all the locks.
The grinding noise is the starter motor staying in position because key is sticking. An easy way to wear the teeth down on either the starter or the more expensive flywheel, which could cause issues later with the teeth failing to mesh properly.

I thought this may be the case, i've read in places about knocking the barrel with a pinhammer as it may be jammed. Any truth in this? And dont worry, im not sitting their letting it grind

Disconnect the battery, and try messing about with it, try lubricating the key with electrical contact cleaner. or spraying directly up the barrel, see if that frees it up.

Drewden +1. Then, if that makes it work correctly, follow that with a small squirt of silicone grease.
