I made more than 200K miles with my 206. The synthetic 5W-50 I use has started to vaporize a little. Should I switch to 20W-50 oils? Which is better, Shell, Castrol, Mobil, or Total?
I know 20W-50 may sounds not good in winter and cold climate, but the weather here in Egypt is warmer than Europe.

Unfortunately, those type of synthetic 10W-60 are not exist in Egypt. We have Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, and 10W-40. Mobil 1 also provide 5W-50. Total have the same grade like Shell.
BTW, most synthetic oils in Egypt are 5W-40.
For mineral, 20W-50 & 15W-50 are available.

Well you been using the wrong oil for your engine,you should use 10W/40 syn. ,it's prefect for the weather in Egypt,I use it myself for my car,and it's great.

Hello Timon, I think I mentioned the car is using an excessive oil. Would the 10W/40 work well with the current engine condition? Or it will need a heavier oil?

just 10W/40 no matter what the condition of your engine,or you can always replace your engine with a better one

I understand your wanting to use a slightly thicker oil to reduce what is being burnt. While they are hard to find you can get 10W50 or even 10W60 but that is expensive! If you move to a mineral based oil you loose the improved lubrication properties (particularly as the oil ages) that synthetics offer.
Mineral based oils tend to degrade and loose both their viscosity and protection properties more quickly than synthetics so if you do decide to use a 20w/50 then I would recommend that you reduce the intervals between changes. Reducing intervals between changes then puts you back where you were with effectively increased oil usage.
No doubt some people will say that a good mineral oil is as good as cheap synthetic or semi-synth and that is true but, in general modern synthetics have greater durability and keep their lubrication properties longer than mineral based oils.
Being in Egypt if your car is using oil it is the second number that I would focus on increasing so move the 40 to a 50 or even 60. The first 10W number is far less important with your ambient temperatures.
