Hello everyone (newbie) I have had my 206 1.4 hdi 04 sine august 2013 and have spent a lot on repairs and am reluctant to give up having spent so much...
The drivers airbag light came on 2 weeks ago and having researched I decided I'd go and get it put on a machine at the local garage (£54) they said comms 2000 faulty,£263 fitted . I did some more research and came across a guy who could fix them for a fraction of the price, so today I was up at 5am for my long trip to Bradford to get my airbag light fixed. I turned up met the chap and out came the tools and he said it's not the comms as no power to one of the wires leading to air bag so he took the airbag ecu off and scratched the connectors with a knife to get a better contact and then plugged it back in and the passenger airbag also came on as he then realised someone had used a resistor on the lead to the airbag further down the column which now meant the lead was not dead just cut short and bridged so he took the resistor off and tested and power was there,so the commas 2000 is now the suspect again. But I have now got 2 airbag lights on and he said he has not got a clue why and put it all back together and I left for my 3hr drive home with my mouth wide open! I am now really worried about what damage has been done to the ecu and airbags as I have MOT in March and am at a loss what to do. I Am considering Peugeot dealer which in hindsight I wish I had done 1st and am kicking my self for being so stupid. Sorry to go on but thought someone maybe able to shed some light.

well do you know what the garage used to do diagnostic,was it a PP2000 (Peugeot Planet 2000),if so,it will tell the one who done the diagnostic which causing the fault,this way,you will save money and time.

At £54 i would hope it was pp or better.

Sounds like also the guy in Queensbury has done you a favour in a strange kind of way, he has found wiring that has been tampered (bodged) within in the air bag system, the multiplex wiring system is way complex and he would have suspicions about just changing the comms, incase of nackering the new one.

I personally would get an indipendent auto elec who is well trained in multiplex systems, to check the wiring before any comms unit is fitted.

Did he disconect the battery before he fiddled with the wiring, i pressume he did, either way have you tried a bsi reset.

No he didn't disconnect anything and I did mention this as had read not to touch anything with testing gear with out disconnecting the battery. BSI reset was not done either as he just said I've no clue why that's happened and that was that.

The so-called comm2000 repair expert started messing with airbags and didn't disconnect the battery first! Sounds about right for an ebay seller.

Have you checked the PP2000 map to see if anyone is close by that could possibly diagnose the fault properly rather than you wasting even more money on monkeys who make the problem worse.

I'd try a proper auto electrician. Not a Peugeot dealer. They will have Planet Peugeot too.

Just in from work. I don't know what peugeot map is? Im debating wheather to go to peugeot as a auto electrician is going to cost me and maybe only tell me the fault and il still have to get it fixed and pay again and I bet who ever fixes will want to put it on a machine again ( head hurts) thought about nothing but the car all day. Just so we are clear I did explain all the issues to the Bradford guy and he said 99.9% he can fix.

No risks involved.

Make sure you turn off the passanger airbag with the key, although it is obviously lit.

Peugeot dealer will cost far more than an independent auto electrician and they will probably know less.
