Hi All,

First post so bare with me!

My missus has a 206 LX 1.1lt 2005 which had severe battery drain problems (dead after a few hours) this was tracked down to the BSI after around a week with a car spark... he found faulty capacitors on it and repair it... now the drain is gone BUT ever since the mileage (or km to be precise) has gone mad.

It was around 90K km before and now is in the region of 250k km. We really dont think the car was clocked before as she bought it 5 years ago when the car was 4 years old and has done feck all miles herself.

If the car was a big rep mobile you'd say something but this just isnt that type of car and there is no major wear or tear.

Has anyone come across any issues like this in the past?

The spark HAD changed the BSI to a new one to test if that was the issue so im thinking this might have caused the issue?

Thanks,
Fionn

It's an anti clocking feature where if the speedo is changed for a lower reading one, the display will show the higher reading. In your case, changing the BSI for one out of a 250k car it, the display again shows the higher mileage. This has been stored in the display, which in turn sends the mileage back to your original BSI if the mechanic put it back in.

There are companies that can rectify the problem.

So you think the BSI the spark put in to test it out set it to the higher of the 2 when he changed it back to the original it stuck with the higher one?

The spark was adament that the one he put in temp was brand new... im beginning to doubt it.

Is there any fix? Would her BSI still have the other mileage on it?

Even if it did as soon as its connected back up on the car the now higher mileage stored in the speedo will then overwrite the lower mileage in the original BSI.

Both BSI & speedo store the mileage, whichever is HIGHER is the one the car will display & it will also permanently overwrite the lower mileage in whichever unit has it.

It can be fixed by a mileage correction company but its not normally cheap.
