Hey Guys I need some help! Purchased a W Reg Peugeot 206 Auto in April. Passed my Driving Test in June so started driving the car shortly after passing. Then I noticed the state the car was in. My warning lights on the Dash do not light up, except the Airbag light. Been advised to have the Dash ripped out to find out the problem. Does anyone know if this is a common issue? Is it a simple fix or am I better off getting rid of it? Amongst other things ie; the headlights being Scotch Locked, the Break hose going after the guy had a clean MOT on it, having to have a break light re wired due to a dodgy connection & being told my Transmission Fluid was about as old as the Car it's self.. This is the one thing I am really worried about as I have my Newborn & Toddler in the car with me most of the time! Thanks in advance for any advice given!
And just to add I have checked the Fuses.. None of them Match up to the book nor any diagrams I have found online. Amps aren't correct & spaces where there should be one! Advised to fill all the missing spaces with a 10/15 amp fuse to see if that worked but it hasn't. The car has Angel Eyes fitted by previous owner so assumed it would need higher Amps in some spots but not the mess that I found! Also had the battery checked (which I'm told is a heavy duty one) & the alternator but they were fine!

You will need the pre plexed fuse diagram, you were probably looking at the multi plexed electrical system (newer). Have you removed the cluster and checked the bulbs, iirc it's just 3 t25 bolts holding it in. Also most manual gearbox oil is normally for the life of the car, I only replace it when doing a clutch.

Sounds like you got a car that has been dicked about with by someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
The headlight connections have been scotchlocked because they have been changed. W reg would have been H4 connections, angel eyes are most likely H7. There are guides on here how to change the wiring, but it sounds like whoever did the change has just gone for a cheap and cheerful swap.
It may be that the previous owner has removed all of the warning bulbs so the car looks perfect. I'd check to make sure they are all there first.
You may be better off getting a new instrument cluster from a scrapyard. The top cowl lifts off, few screws and the cluster is out. Just make sure you get one from a pre-plexed and if possible with lower mileage than yours. If it is the cluster that has gone then this problem will be solved.
The autobox isn't known for it's reliability. Most people on here would tell you to avoid them, especially on a car of that age.
Get a couple of pictures up of the car, we might recognise it.

Thank you for your replies! I had the Transmission fluid done because the automatic gear changes were horrific! It would slip into a 70 Rev whilst doing 30mph or any other speed for that matter! Hoping that the transmission fluid would be enough & not that the Gear Box was on it's way out!
It definitely has been messed about with! It was only purchased as a run around because of the kiddies but when the break hose went the Garage questioned me as to why I even had a MOT.. As apparently 'things were falling off' the car whilst he was under it! I've finally managed to get hold of the idiot who sold it to me, who put it through the MOT himself & he is coming to give it a look over today. As he is sure the warning lights worked when he turned the ignition on for us to see it lol!
My uncle is a electrician for Folk lifts & has done his fair share of wiring on My Parents Cars, but he hates Peugeots so isn't really willing to have a look for me! I have Blackbushe Scrap Yard down the road from me though so I may give that a go if he isn't willing to take the Car back - Which I doubt he will!
And you'll have to excuse me, I know nothing about cars.. But with the Dodgy Halfords lights that have been put in .. Does that mean I can't put them back to factory standard?
Also - don't know if this has any relevance but when I took the cover off under the steering wheel to check the fuses .. The fuse box came out? It was still attached by wires but was dangling mid air? & my brother in law came out and said it looked like my ECU had a house screw through it? He has a fiesta and refers to the ECU as the bit where you plug the computer in for diagnostics.. Does any of that sound right?

If you can get rid of it.
206 auto's are just total s**te, the AL4 box it awful & just goes wrong for the fun of it.
A non plexed 206 with dicked about electrics with an auto box will just be a total headache.

I had a 1991 205 before this one.. Also automatic and nearly 10 years older and it was perfect, I took it through two mots with no problems & I only got rid of it because the Tyres to replace cost more than the cars worth it's self!
Unfortunately I cheated in my Driving Test & passed with an Automatic restricted license!
Just had the previous owner out for inspection.. Apparently a Second car being reported to Vosa in the space of two weeks wasn't something he was looking forward too, so has agreed to come out and do some work on the car.. But thinking with 94 on the clock & the overall state it may be time to have the thing put down & sent to car heaven?
