Hello.

My HDI has never done more than 80mph on a flat road.

Recently i have had an issue where the power will shoot to more than ever for about 30 seconds before returning to normal

Any ideas what would be causing this?

Should I unclip the EGR Valve? Could it be the fuel pump?

Obviously i would like to utilize this higher power as the car is capable of producing it.

do you think disabling the EGR Valve would be a good idea anyway? and is it easy to do?

I would stop driving the car immediately as you cannot control the speed of the engine and therefore the car is not in safe working order for use on the public road.

Did the engine revs increase when the car suddenly had an increase of speed? Go off the noise from the engine, not what the dash said.
Has the EML illuminated?
What year is the car?
Any Peugeot service history?

Intermittent faults are always difficult to find and sods law says that as soon as you start looking for it, it won't happen. Stop looking for the fault and it will happen all the time.

On closer inspection, the back box was rusting away, the connection to the main pipe was splitting and causing the surges in power.

I have now fitted a straight thru exhaust and had the cat piped off.

It now runs great.

Thanks guys : )

Are you sure? Can't see how that would cause a power surge

yeah, when the join started to crack, exhaust gasses would escape, back pressure would decrease and off it would go.

when the join cracked apart completely, the backbox was no-longer connected and i had loads of power.

After getting the decat and thru pipe fitted, back pressure is at a minimum and it flies along.

I ran mine with no back box for a month. Made no difference to power. It's getting pressure from the turbo anyhow

Whats your engine size...

This definatly made a difference. Top speed was 80, now it's above 110, but Im not sure exactly!

This shoudl make no difference unless you backbox completely collapsed in on itself which i doubt.

Probably a vacuum leak
