Hi all and thanks for looking. Firstly, I am sorry if i am treading on old ground here but have hit the point of confusion headache and don't want to make things any worse though from what i can work out it probably can't!
I am the proud new owner of a 1.4 petrol verve on a 56 plate. Due to being a supposed grown up with a bike licence and no car licence "Merv" came up for sale, was bought and just sat with his battery getting flatter. Being a dumbo i thought it no problem to just hook up the charger and charge it still hooked up as i have done on wifey's car(s), i wish i had visited here first!
I now have no ignition, no idiot lights, no central locking, no nothing. After hours of trawling google and mainly here I was going to try charging the battery followed by the BSI reset from here but can't get the windows down so am a bit stuck. Any advice on fixing it or being less of a pillock in future gratefully received.

Simple enough to do without the window being down. Ask someone else to sit in the car, shut the door and then after you have reconnected the battery ask them to turn the sidelights on. Leave them sat there for a few minutes while the computer wakes up and then open the door.
Double check all the connections are tight, including the battery to gearbox earth as these rot away over time.
If the battery is over 5 years old, I would also consider replacing it with new one, or borrow a good one just to rule out the battery being goosed.

Cheers both, took the battery out and could only charge it to 11.3v before the charger shut off, glad i wandered back to check as the side was bulging....ooops
I am spending all night with my fingers crossed before chucking a new battery in there and see what happens, i vote for it just working properly but i never seem to get a vote. Will post back with the results!
