#1: twingo gt project (twingers) *more stuff done!* Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:54 am ---- well guys im back here with another W.I.P thread (the nickname pride goes to Quarmbo for his erm... ingenuity xD )
alot of you will know why my last one has stopped
any way
here we have a twingo gt on a 57 reg with 13k miles on it
according to renault she pushes out 100 bhp from a 1.2 TCE motor (1.2 16v turbo)
couple of things about the motor if people don't know
it has a water cooled turbo
sodium cooled valves
water/oil heat exchanger.
i know i know... sounds expensive for parts you'd be right xD
this is how it was bought
then the parts started to arrive
wind deflectors already
my old zorst went on off the 206
induction kit!
canbus led sidelights and HiD's
obviously some photo's had to be taken
bonus of it being so narrow
then a problem occured...
K&N's induction kit that was made for this car has a design fault... there is no weight supporting the filter so it vibrates out the pipe! i tightened it up thinking it was just me and oops! i put a crack in it
i thought about it and reckoned if there was another bracket like the one in the kit it might support it... so i queued the music and found my workshop
bracket made to sit under the jubilee clip that holds the filter to the pipe
sadly after what seemed like sucess it failed again the vibrations were jsut too much for it so i had another think and remembered the bit of stainless pipe i got bent for the 206
now i know some people might spot the cable ties and the block of wood but please do understand this is temporary till i get a bracket welded on the pipe so it holds itself up off the engine mount and sparker leads.
also!
removed the twingo sticker from the back. Must've been made of kevlar! it took chunks out of me and my mates nails trying to peel it off!
there's much more to go with the little thing i.e
remap
FMIC kit
rest of the zorst done
lowered
alloys
interior
and various little things
hope i didn't bore you!

but twin zorst is on my list

#9: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:17 am ---- What does mapping get out of the little thing? 120?
#10: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:26 am ---- well ktec's gt with a panel filter an straight through exhaust got 115bhp and after a map it got 130
and a guy has the fmic on it with a map and it's been estimated to be pushing 145-150bhp
those stats are for a standard 206 instead of my mapped one
but this would still hand the derv it's a**e!
it has overboost aswell
Pfffffffffft. Never.

You mean the renaultsport? I like the idea of the 1.2 turbo, the renaultsport seems a bit predictable with a 1.6 NA
#14: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 08, 2010 8:35 am ---- can't get insured on it its a group 8 where as this is a group 5
plus with a bit of tinkering it can blow a renaultsport away

@spud does around 41 on the motorway and about 38 round town
got some new horns as i have always had airhorns on my motor
some silvertech bulbs to get rid of the fried egg look
and my old boost gauge i forgot to put a picture of up last time ^_^

was servicing my brakes to find that my intercooler ( which is in the passenger wing behind the foglight) was half blocked with mud :S
so have tried the p/wash through it while it was still on the car, havent really noticed a difference if there is it's miniscule.
though still making a noise like blowing across the top of a bottle on 5psi vacumm :S
#28: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Harry, Location: StaffordPosted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 4:14 am ---- Looks very smart, can't believe how small the engine bay is though.
#29: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Antix, Location: WorcesterPosted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 4:24 am ---- Awww Si - it's cute
And the engine bay is tiny!
#30: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 15, 2010 4:53 am ---- i'm loving the small but powerful engine
also been talking about a remap and all the companies have mentioned that the injectors are nearly maxed out as they are, but eveyone says they can get 15bhp out of it and quite a bit more torque
and i have recently aquired a turbo timer off here and hopefully will be fitting it very soon ^_^
#31: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:07 am ---- turbo timer pics!
#32: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Ruffy_206, Location: BristolPosted: Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:11 am ---- im liking that alot very nice. was it hard to install?
#33: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:16 am ---- no it was very easy to install!
i gave the auto electrician 40 coits told him where it was to go and that i had the sticky tape to do it and sat back
downsides are that the central locking doesn't work with the engine running... gotta be some way around that
looks funky mate! i seen one at FCS wrapped in carbon and it looked very nice.
#35: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:19 am ---- i did want the bodykit from that but its too expensive
it might be tiny but its bloody nippy!
#36: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Rich196, Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 3:28 am ---- What does a turbo timer do? and whats the point of it?
#37: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:07 am ---- turbo timer leaves the engine ticking over for a period of time (mine is either 1 or 3 minutes) after a fast/ long trip so that the turbo can calm down otherwise you can get early turbo failure if you just switch it off as soon as you pull up.
turbo timer leaves the engine ticking over for a period of time (mine is either 1 or 3 minutes) after a fast/ long trip so that the turbo can calm down otherwise you can get early turbo failure if you just switch it off as soon as you pull up.
can do it by just waiting or use one of these
a 5-minute drive @ 30mph or under also cools the turbo
Turbotimers are for people who race their engines, if you needed one then Subaru/Mitsubishi/everyone else would fit one as standard to their turbocharged cars
#39: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:51 am ---- i'm mainly just gonna use it for when i go on the drag strip and places like that
i'm mainly just gonna use it for when i go on the drag strip and places like that
is it watercooled or oil-cooled?
EDIT: just read it's watercooled, so would cool quicker than oil-cooled anyway lol
#41: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 5:13 am ---- oh well lol it's all wired in now anyway
and it doesn't hurt to have it anyway - just means you have to stop in your car after you've reached your destination. Put a magazine in the car for such occasions LOL
#43: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:20 am ---- How long before someone stops you, and says "mate, you've left your engine running...."
#44: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:54 am ---- i've taken the induction kit off as the noise it was making when i was trying to potter was soo annoying! looks like i'll be getting a panel filter then...
#45: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:34 am ---- fitted the panel filter the very next day! was a bit gutted that i dont have the same noise now but pottering is alot nicer now
also cars booked in for a full straight through system on monday ^_^ only going to 2" though as jtec's is that size.
issues iwth my isurance might stop any further mods that is unless i can talk to them about it. we'll see though
#46: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:43 am ---- Looks cool mate,

#47: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:50 am ---- i dunno when the next one is but i ran a decent time considering what the mapped hdi did it in.
2L HDi
mapped
straight through system
panel filter
17.38 (dry)
1.2 Twingo
back box
filter
17.04 (dry)
17.23 (wet)
so the twingo still ran faster than the HDi when the strip was soaked xD
#48: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:52 am ---- haha nice one,
Im off to York this weekend
I now have a target to beat
#49: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:56 am ---- what bhp's the c2?
cause once this straight throughs on if she follows ktecs gt it'll be around 115bhp then
fastest run was the very first run xD it's true what they say about this engine having majour issues about getting hot
#50: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 11:58 am ---- Mines 125bhp standerd still more than yours *sticks tongue out* I jest
0-60 in 8.0
Hmmm doesnt sound good that, id have thought it got better after a few runs and warmed up
so the twingo still ran faster than the HDi when the strip was soaked xD
Doesnt the twingo weigh about the same as an ants nutsac tho?
#52: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:33 pm ---- i think she's 980kg
the engine pushes too much power really and even ktec told me that when they were mapping there's that they had to keep letting it cool down as it has problems. Plus the tiny intercooler isn't up to the job really
#53: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:35 pm ----

You know what that means
Bigger FMIC FTW
Mines 1068kg i think
#54: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:38 pm ---- well that was the plan but now that adrian flux has shafted me i'm not so sure
might just mount a tiny fan in the hole so it can suck the air through fast instead of no airflow at all
will be cheaper for now aswell rather than the 500 pound for the kit
#55: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:43 pm ---- you know you want too
water cooled FMIC for the track events maybe ??
#56: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:45 pm ---- i need to talk to adrian flux to see if they can stop being such a ballache and match a price rather than beat it then i can get it done.
otherwise untill i get some NCB again the modifying stops at the exhaust
#57: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:49 pm ---- this is why i hate insurance companies, aint exaclty making it Veryon speeds
#58: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:53 pm ---- exactly
i'm not even planning on changing the performance either just stopping power, handling, looks and cooling efficency
this is why i hate insurance companies, aint exaclty making it Veryon speeds
Always best to do it by the book though! I guess spinning the 206 isnt helping the quotes. I hate insurance!
#60: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:54 pm ---- thats what has killed the quote as i have lost four years NCB
#61: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:59 pm ---- Yea definatly do it by the book, i mean that because of insurance companies this is why you have a limit sometimes on what you can do
Well si mine has already got the brakes looks and wheels, may just TB it

Love ya too
Forgot to say i also have Lowered sports suspension as standerd Whoop
So handling is all sorted toooo
Everything is good apart from the performanc, which still aint bad at 125 bhp TB it up to about 180ish
Ssshhhh about the turbo, i have one too, its in my garage, in a box
thats what has killed the quote as i have lost four years NCB
And i bet you were glad you declared on the 206 when you came to claim!
Tell you what i had an RS Turbo stolen back in 99, im on 9yrs no claims and its obviously not valid, but i still feel as if im paying for it given my age and ncd etc.
#65: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:29 am ---- well a slight update a guess
panel filter was bought to replace the induction kit
it's erm...quite thin :S
also got the rest of the exhaust done so it's a 2" straight to the back box rather than the pea shooter it had on

#68: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:25 am ---- apparently someone on twingooc has gotten there's to about 145 with a front mount and map
though i think with bigger injectors (as there nearly maxed out as they are standard) you'll be able to get good power from it
and it only weighs something like 960-980kg ^_^
my mate in a 206bhp diesel astra said of a flat he was shocked at how much effort he had to put in to stop me from pulling away. he could've overtaken me but he only wanted to sta with
#69: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Len_Beach, Location: LeedsPosted: Thu Aug 12, 2010 5:06 pm ---- Flux are crap these days. Have you tried Greenlight? It may even be worthing scrapping your current policy mid-term.
#70: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Thu Aug 12, 2010 5:13 pm ---- well my policy ends the end of this month so i need to find something. though finding one that will let me do visual mods without affecting price like flux did would be brilliant

Wonder how long the water would last if the spray was left on constant say on a 30min track sesh
#80: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Ape, Location: Clipping the Apex!Posted: Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:52 pm ---- Or how much of a washer pump you'd have left, they're not normally built to run constantly, especially running dry. It wouldn't last a more than a couple of minutes I'd guess.
#81: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Tue Aug 17, 2010 2:58 pm ---- I see what your saying!
Well maybe some short say 10 seconds bursts every now and again will have to do, Or find another means of delivering the water without damage, and with a greater capacity.
#82: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Wed Aug 18, 2010 1:13 am ---- you should see if you can get a timed relay and a switch like you have for oil level in the litle generator motors cause they cut the motor off when the oils too low
so i suppose you could use that for when the waters low? i dunno
my headunit is right infront of my gearstich so i'm just gonna buy a push button and mount it there as even when changing gears my finger can still touch that panel
#83: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: Rich196, Posted: Wed Aug 18, 2010 6:16 am ---- all you want is something that when you switch it on, turns the pump on every 5 minutes or something for a couple of seconds by its self it wouldn't be hard to make something like that.
#84: Re: twingo gt project (twingers) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Fri Aug 20, 2010 12:45 pm ---- well it's done ^_^ and its just on a push button.

pics of the intercooler spray

one of my mates who does design work is redoing it in the proper font as the sticker place made a right hash of it ( you get the idea though)
