#1: Timing Belt Change? Author: tamatisk, Location: LancasterPosted: Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:46 pm ---- What is the advised mileage to get the timing belt changed and how can you tell if it's on it's way out?
Also is there a way to check if this has been changed without a service history?
It's a 1.4 2002 HDI with 80,000 miles if that helps.
#2: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:48 pm ---- 60,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first.
#3: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: colin, Location: brentwoodPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:39 am ---- 144k or ten years.it wont have been done yet.

Wouldn't wait nowhere near that long. 60k or five years is generally the rule of thumb for many cars. Prevention is better than the cure
#5: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Sun Jul 25, 2010 3:32 pm ---- Yeah there is no real way of telling when it is on its way out... And it only has to be weakened by as little as 5% to be compromised
#6: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: tamatisk, Location: LancasterPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:38 am ---- Thanks. Any idea how much for a 1.4 HDI 2002 206?

#8: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: C-MAN, Location: RedditchPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:21 am ---- Its better to change it now, than have it go on you.
#9: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: Chi, Location: North LondonPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:28 am ---- If it has done 80k and you haven't got any documentation to say it has been done then best to get it done asap.
Cheaper to get it changed than having to pay for the repairs later or even a new engine!
#10: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: colin, Location: brentwoodPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:28 am ---- The belt on this engine is recommended to change at 144k,same engine in fiesta 150k,or ten years, obviously I would change it a bit sooner, but 60k or 5 years is over cautious by along way.
#11: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: JonnyH, Location: Newcastle upon TynePosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:30 am ---- It's 80,000 miles or every 10 years so I'd get it changed. If it goes you're looking at a new engine which is very, very costly.
I'm thinking of getting mine done soon - you'll be looking at around £130 with parts and labour if you get a decent deal.

The parts to do this job properly will come to the bones of that price.

Well autodata says 149,000 miles for a HDi
60,000 miles or 5 years is a general rule of thumb for many manufactures, even less if you do a lot of start stop driving.
#17: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: colin, Location: brentwoodPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:08 pm ---- i don't think a 206 is in much demand as a cab,as in lots of stop start driving,as for 60k rule of thumb bolox, manufacturer should know when best to change the belts.
#18: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:12 pm ---- Think you should do some research mate, and look into it. Many people on forums, mechanics and such say about 60k.
You don't have to be a taxi driver to do a lot of start-stop driving, some people might only drive in cities or use it for deliveries. Its taxi driver not cab driver, we aren't yanks.
#19: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: colin, Location: brentwoodPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:22 pm ---- Many people on forums talk bolox mate, ever heard of mini cab.as for mechanics shortening life of components by a third, wonder why they would do that.
#20: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:26 pm ---- Yeah i know they talk bollox.
And its still a taxi not a cab
#21: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: lofty, Location: Near ManchesterPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:29 pm ---- The gti is 80k or 5 years whichever comes first and I believe all of the other models should be 60k or 5 years.
I had mine done at 95k which was pushing it a bit.
#22: Re: Timing Belt Change? Author: colin, Location: brentwoodPosted: Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:31 pm ---- can see you know what your talking about lofty.
