#1: Do I get a 180, Seat LCR, Civic Type R or something else? Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:56 am ---- I'm thinking now is a good time to sell my GTi.
Its just passed the MOT & has been taxed for a year.
However I would like more power without going down the modifications route.
Reasons to keep:
I know that it it'll be good for a long time since the engine was rebuilt 10k miles ago, I've replaced pretty much everything
Has new good tyres.
Is a nice colour
Reasons to sell:
Engine rebuild so reassurance to buyers.
Has 4 months left of warranty on the engine.
Would like more power,
Not fuel friendly.
Dealership has offered me a good price.
Has been my 2nd 206
There are more reasons but I'm short on time so havn't listed them all.
I really don't know what to do
Update:
The 206 is now listed for sale on Piston heads & eBay. Last edited by CD-B3 on Tue Jul 27, 2010 4:05 pm; edited 3 times in total

If you like the 206 and are in a position to afford a 180, then 'yes'.
There are so many different cars for your money these days, so you can either stick with what you know or expand your mechanical knowledge elsewhere!
Either way, you are a dedicated 206info member so you're staying here lol.

Its not that I am bored with Peugeot its more of losing faith in French cars.
My dad always buys German cars, currently has 2 Audi's.
One is a 2002 A6 1.9TDi, that has had minimal if no problems in the 5 years he's had it. Also the A4 I shared with him before my 206's went on to 230,000 miles with no issues.
However his TT has had loads of problems, ABS, ESP & now an EML.
That is costing over £1k to fix (in just parts)
So if I do move on from 206's what else is a good buy? Budget of £4k
#5: Re: Do I get a 180? Author: G1ggs, Location: WiganPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 7:05 am ---- I'm going for Honda or VW next. I don't think I could buy another peugeot again. It's not that I don't like mine it's just that I find the Japs and VW have better build quality.
If your happy with peugeots then go for it, the 180, for all it's bad habits is a great car!
#6: Re: Do I get a 180? Author: Quarmbo, Location: Bristol & LeicesterPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 7:08 am ---- Budget of £4k - get a 180. If your after a bit of power, then I can't see or think of (feel free to correct me) any other car that you can get for that price, with a similar spec. Potentially a 2003/4/5 plate car, around 40k on the clock and with the power it has. Granted, you could get a much quicker car, but I imagine it would have to be older.
Only downside, in my eyes, is insurance costs. But, if you find yourself a decent deal, you could come up trumps and have a little bit of spare cash to help out.
Your example of your Dads TT above highlights what Jamie has said. You could get a 180 and it be faultless. Its like that with any car (your gti for example!).

Thats what I was thinking, but a Civic Type R is a bit like a Saxo now
I would quite like something with a turbo.
I do a fair bit of driving but I can cut back a lot if I need to. Ideally it needs at least 30mpg over 150bhp, 4 seats & a half decent boot.
Just writing up an advert for my car...

I'd like something no older than 2004. Mileage no higher than 60k

#23: Re: Do I get a 180? Author: Locky, Location: Newcastle / PlymouthPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:44 am ---- If you are bored of your gti, then the 180 option doesnt seem a sensible choice. They arent exactly gonna blow your socks off and its fundamentaly the exact same car. I was pretty underwhelmed with a 180 and i drive a d-turbo!
If you think your gti will give you a few more years hassle free motoring, then stick with it - you have invested cash into it so recoup your expense through usage, as you wont be able to sell it for more. I think if you 'have' to have something different, change manufacturer all together.

Thats not bad!
I've just been looking at S3's but they're a bit too thirsty & for one with a lower milage the price is too high.
I've never driven a Seat Leon Cupra but I've heard alot of good things about them.

I have to question who said a 180 is essentially the same as the gti. I've never driven the 180 granted, but having spoken to lots of people who have, they have all said there is a world of difference between the two.
I like the 206, so will be going back once my gf has finished uni/I get my promotion *touch wood*. I had a V reg Gti and it was brilliant, I loved the look of the car and for the budget I would have in mind (same as CD's - £4k), there's not much out there that can get you a similar car for a similar price. Maybe a 182, but I've heard terrible things about comfort and legroom for us bigger boys!!

Apart from a few extra horses and no spare tyre it is - isnt it? Maybe a few more toys too. Certainly not enough to relieve gti boredom for more than a couple months surely?

Ibiza Cupra

#39: Re: Do I get a 180, or something else? Author: Len_Beach, Location: LeedsPosted: Tue Jul 27, 2010 3:20 pm ---- 1*2's are fantastic. For that budget you'd get a 182 with Cup packs I dare say. Other than the Trophy, they were regarded as best hot hatch of the era. Can of worms I know but a Type R has to be abused to get it to move whereas the Clio is more of an all round package.
I'd have kept mine and tracked it in a heartbeat it if it wasn't for the sentimentality.

Nothing wrong with the engine in it really, just their slightly larger size puts me off.

The Leon & CTR aren't going to be much newer than your current one and could be just as high mileage-wise. Then there could be issues mechanically (ones that yours has already had).
*if it were me* in your situation I would aim for getting a car for at least £6k and feel safer in the knowledge it is newer and less likely to have issues/wear and tear.

Just like any other car.
You'll spend a fortune to get it to that power.
If you're looking for 30mpg+, forget an LCR unless you're going to drive off boost everywhere (which you'll be unable to, the lure of BOOOOOOOOST will be too strong )

#78: Re: Do I get a 180, Seat LCR, Civic Type R or something else? Author: D4NTP, Location: Not Leeds or its surrounding areas!Posted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:15 pm ---- If you only have £4k to spend i'm guessing you need to keep the running costs low too, in which case i would stay well clear of turbo'd cars that have a far few miles on them, stick to something simple, the last thing you want after spending £4k is another grands worth of repairs. I stick by my orginal suggestion of a CTR if your feeling chavvy (nothing wrong with them, although they do look a little like a mark 2 megane scenic) or dare to be different and get a corolla tsport, once you have driven one you'll know what i mean, not quite as quick as a CTR (only just!) but loads more toys, better on fuel, cheaper to run, cheaper to insure and much more of a surprise when you go past them
#79: Re: Do I get a 180, Seat LCR, Civic Type R or something else? Author: Junglingo, Location: HampshirePosted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:59 pm ---- a 180 would feel different to drive but would look the same as utimately it is still a pug 206. Integra Type R, CTR, Cupra R all good. get test driving! Turbo'd cars as said here would def be expensive on insurance, maintance and petrol. something to look forward to in the future maybe. good luck car hunting

Not a fan of Golfs, & 150bhp is a bit low.
Cupra R is a little pricey.
Integra is impractical.
I'm now looking into Civic type R's, seem to be good for the money & miles.

I am... At the moment I'm still looking at CTR's with lower mileage's, but was wondering if there was anything else I should consider since I could afford something a bit newer.

Just a thought ... if you CAN stretch your budget then I have a suggestion for a novel new car. It is economical, cheap to tax/run, 1.5 intercooled turbo, will beat MOST hot hatches with its 177bhp (before remap!) ..
Smart ForFour BRABUS (made 2005 & 2006 only) - it's a 5dr though

Good thinking and I know the car you mean but I don't like Smart cars
Thinking about it I think I'll stick with the idea of a CTR with lower miles and put some cash towards the extra insurance or possibly look into LCR's again.
