What is the actual point in these things, I cant think of a proper purpose as I thought it was illegal to have the breather hose off because the oil gives off toxic gases which are then put through combustion to get rid of them???

As to your original question, they're useful if you've fitted an induction kit which doesn't have a fitting to allow for recirculation.

I dont think that much pressure build up in the breather pipe so with it being left open I doubt it would make much difference.
Abzynthe, the best thing would probably to look on your engine where it goes and using a tape or sumething see what would look/fit best
