#3: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: smiddies, Location: BrightonPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:13 pm ---- Waste of time, 1.1s are probably about the same speed till bwt 70, or uphill lol
#4: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: MFACTOR001, Location: sheffieldPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:43 pm ---- why are you wanting to put 1.4 in ,what you hoping for?.
#5: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:54 pm ---- straight swap but you are looking at 250 in labour to swap it. possibly more. fair enough if the engine needs doing anyway though
#6: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: Timon2210, Location: PalestinePosted: Tue Aug 10, 2010 11:15 pm ---- go for 1.6,mine is 1.4,thinking of doing it 1.6 8V :),just waiting for the right car to come to scrapy
#7: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: MEGA, Location: Harrow, LondonPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 1:30 am ---- The 1.1 or 1.4 -> 1.6 mod requires a few more things.
Exhaust Manifold from a 1.6 as the oil filter is in a different place
Injectors
Intake manifold as it is a different bore width
Custom induction or the induction from 1.6
The clutch is different.. You could use your 1.1 clutch, it is bolt pattern compatible - but it isn't designed for the abuse. I'd recommend getting a 1.6 clutch/flywheel
1.1 -> 1.4 is pretty simple however. Last edited by MEGA on Wed Aug 11, 2010 2:23 am; edited 1 time in total

Power to weight is very important with small cars. Additional passengers or a boot full of ICE will make a massive difference
#10: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: vintageoriginal, Location: London, UKPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 3:03 am ---- I've done a 1.4 8V to 1.6 16V conversion.

think the older ones only have single point injection thats why. unless thats just on the saxo engines

Wouldnt you get all that with a donor engine and box anyway?

most scrap yards sell the block on its own without the gearbox. if you could get a decent clutch for the 1.1 i would stick with the gearbox as the gear ratios are bound to be shorter.
#15: Re: 1.1 to 1.4 ? Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 6:43 am ---- Buy my 1.6 engine (s)?
Alot faster than any 1.4

Yes. I've used my old 1.1 gearbox as it is perfect for a track application. Maybe not quite wide enough to get me to max out the engine on a motorway but more than sufficient for the track.
Ideally I'd have a custom gearbox with even shorter gearing but a 6th gear.. But I suppose you can't have it all. Atleast not on a shoestring budget :)

Author: curt, Location: darwenPosted: Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:01 am ---- I was just asking because the 1.1 I have in now is shot and I can't find out what is put(?) and I was just going to stick the 1.4 in because I can get hold of a cheap one off a friend not too bothered about speed or anything. I just want my car working again, thanks for the comments.

in that case put a 1.4 in it. will cost no more as it is a straight swap pretty much.
