#1: Oil Pump gone! Author: Steve., Location: FarehamPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 10:46 am ---- I made the mistake of letting my mum use my car today...
shes come back and it has a problem.
when the revs are below 1k the oil light comes on with STOP in red under the rev counter.
im assuming it the oil pump thats f*cked? (or possibly sensor?)
does anyone know roughly how much a new one is (without and with fitting)
if they are moderatly cheap and easy to fit i will do it myself.
thanks,
Steve.

#3: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Steve., Location: FarehamPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 10:54 am ---- ive checked the oil, its happly got enough in it.
#4: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Locky, Location: Newcastle / PlymouthPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:04 am ---- Oil pump went in a car i used to have, and because i nursed it home (not knowing what the problem was) rather than stopping and getting it recovered, i did irrepairable damage and had to have a rebuild.

#7: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: barry123, Location: londonPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:35 pm ---- your pump will be fine mate, typical sensor problem.
#8: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: mickbhal, Location: homePosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 2:11 pm ---- There is 1 on ebay £100 whether on not or even that problem i don't know.
#9: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 2:17 pm ---- Not necessarily the oil pump. It's just suggesting there's low oil pressure...there could be many reaons for that.
#10: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: meady, Location: basingstokePosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 3:28 pm ---- i had a low oil pressure fault on my gti, and all it turned out to be was that one of the cables had rubed through the sleeve it was in and was tripping causing it to flash up
#11: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 4:15 pm ---- If the oil pump was knackered, would that not cause the engine to seize up?
#12: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: meady, Location: basingstokePosted: Sat Aug 21, 2010 4:35 pm ---- yeh it would as there is no oil geting to the engine to keep it all running nicely as it should just get it hooked up to a diagnostics machine, would be ya best bet mate
#13: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 1:04 am ---- Diagnostics won't tell you anything. It will just flag up that there's low oil pressure - hence the light coming on. It won't tell you the exact reason for the light being on.
#14: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Steve., Location: FarehamPosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 3:03 am ---- so whats my best bet to do...
take it to a normal garage and see what they can do?
take it to a pug dealer and loose all my money?
try fix it myself?..
#15: Re: Oil Pump gone! Author: Locky, Location: Newcastle / PlymouthPosted: Sun Aug 22, 2010 3:45 am ---- If you are gonna try and fix it yourself, get yourself a haynes manual and some way to get under the car to get the sump off to access the pump and all the related gubbins for removal and inspection.
It sounds like quite a ballache to do yourself, plus you need to know what you are looking at. Lots of related parts.
As said above, if the oil isnt being pumped round the engine, you will be doing a lot of damage driving anywhere. But, seeing as pump failures are quite rare, it might be something else, which unless you have a clue where to start looking, you may be best off getting it looked at by a garage.
Sounds like a mare whatever you do mate, good luck.
