#1: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 2:58 am ---- hey people!
right as most of you know i have a 1.4 sport 16v. not the worst not the best.
my question is i travel along a long road to work every day with few safe overtaking places for the car im in atm as it just doesnt seem to have enough push to make it (so im not stupid i dont even try lol)
now talking to a friend i was also thinking MPG wise id like a bit more. we both came up with the 206 1.4 HDi.
whats the difference performance wise (figures please, i no ones a diesel and ones a petrol before anyone comments!)
can you tune the 1.4 hdi more then the 1.4sport?
how much would i be looking at for the car and mods to get it up to good performance figures?
cheers lads n lass'
Dan
#2: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:04 am ---- The HDi is easily remappable and I can imagine will probably feel quicker than the 1.4 petrol ultimately. I know the mpg will be better. It has ample torque so accelerating will be fine I should think. They're alright engines really.
#3: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Bailey, Location: Finding Dr. RobotnikPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:06 am ---- Have you looked at a 2.0 hdi that has a fair amount of power waiting to be unleashed.
#4: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:08 am ---- 2.0 is a bit to much for me due to insurance. was in my mind at first but the cheaper the better. insurance tax etc.
what figuers has anyone got out the 1.4hdi?

There we go matey should have all the different figures there

#7: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: vanman_foci, Location: Barry, South WalesPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:19 am ---- speak to barton.
Sure his is tuned to f***
#8: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Bailey, Location: Finding Dr. RobotnikPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:21 am ---- According to parkers. Insurance on The 1.4 and 1.4 hdi are both group 5 and the 2.0 hdi is group 6. I would look at some quotes from each type of car.
#9: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:22 am ---- will do.
isnt bartons a 2.0hdi?
#10: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: twed207, Location: borders, near carlisle.Posted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:26 am ---- i've been quite impressed with the 1.4HDi engine. it's fairly nippy! lol. 70hp and about 120ft-lb.
you can remap it to about 95hp and 150-160ftlb to make it even quicker and you'll still get 60MPG+!
i had a 207 courtesy car the other week and it fair shifted! i though it was the 1.6hdi 90 but it was only the 1.4!
#11: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:27 am ---- this is gonna sound silly but 95 dont seem to much as mine is 90 standard.(claimed)
i no the diesel will have more torque but i want the best of both lol!
#12: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:30 am ---- Have a look at the 2.0hdi as insurance isn't as bad as you think no harm in getting a quote
#13: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:30 am ---- A friends 1.4HDi can overtake with ease, just keep it in 4th everywhere
#14: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:34 am ---- No! 1.4 Sport FTW! I just don't like the sound of diesels, so I couldn't see myself getting one As my first car, the 206 1.4 Sport was the fastest car I could get insured on for a reasonable price.

that's just with a standard remap. but mind on, it's only got 70PS to start off with! lol.
you can fit a FMIC, straight through exhaust to free it up a little and get some more power and lower down torque!
small diesels aren't really that tunable as they dont have much to give from the start. unlike VAG dervs with silly power to start off with!

dont worry mate the 1.4 sport will be staying just looking to acquire another one in diesel! lol more MPG yum yum.
do you not find the petrol slightly sluggish? i dont no if its just me due to other 1.4s i have driven lol
i looked at a 2.0l hdi and its about £300 more on insurance thats a fair bit as its already at £3k lol
any figures of the 2.0 been tuned and what you can do to them?
thanks for the feedback so far guys!
#18: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Seb, Location: Under your bedPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:42 am ---- I'm sorry what, £3k???
#19: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: juanfernandes, Location: LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:44 am ---- How accurate is the information held at parkers.co.uk?
Says this for my car:
1.4 Verve 5d (AC)
(0-60) - 11.6s
Top Speed - 107mph
BHP - 75 bhp
How will those figures vary from car to car or are all same models exactly the same as above?
#20: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:49 am ---- Figures for 2.0 tuned:
Standard map: 110bhp
Decat, panel filter + map: 115bhp
Intercooler and above 130-160bhp
Bigger injectors and more extensive work: could reach 200bhp.
all figures are variable obvs. and each engine is different :).
#21: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:50 am ---- Sometimes it's seems to lack power in 1st (but I think that's down to the erratic idle and stall problem). Otherwise it seems ok, but the only other cars I've driven are a 1.1 Ibiza, which was shocking and a 1.8 Mondeo, which is pretty different.
I think it always feels faster in my car than it actually is as it's a pretty bumpy ride and is a bit louder (pug sports silencer). One time I just just went for it in 2nd and it was approaching 70mph before the limiter came in. Not that it means much in terms of acceleration, just you can hang onto gears a lot longer than you'd expect.

Yea but the torque figures would be amazing.
#25: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 3:57 am ---- Yes. Although they all start pretty much the same, you could have two cars on exactly the same milage, exactly the same year.. Yet they could have different BHP, this is due to engine wear, how they have been looked after etc. Also no car is exactly the same anyway there is no way you can get each dimension the same, it may only be out by 0.01mm yet this will change the engine wear rate.

Exactly! I would put the torque figures as they are more vital however I ain't as clues up with that side yet

What car have you got?! I got to 60 in second (Gti) when I was driving enthusiastecly but felt guilty immediately after.
EDIT: 1.4?! You liar.

will be getting one done next month when its due.
@ seb yes 3k unfortunately i was a VERY irresponsible 17 year old in my first car and REGRET IT DEEPLY! plus i got my missus on the policy! lol
160bhp sounds great to me!
so to buy i decent 2.0 and do the tuning mentioned what cost we looking at?

tbf his car was quite quick for a 1.4hdi, although it's had a map & decat (iirc) - not sure what else powerwise it's had done to it.. But dayyummmm it's sexually low lol!

My run up is:
£200 for the Ss exhaust and decat.
20 for a KandN filter.
£250 for all the FMIC bits and bobs (Ic, Piping, Slim Fan, boost gauge)
£300ish for the map...
That's doing all work pretty much myself (not the exhaust)... But can lead anything up to £1500 if garages are doing it all.

#37: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:42 am ---- Yeah, I knew you wouldn't believe it. I didn't myself. I had a friend in the car when I did it and he was ZOMGWTFBBQ! I also got to 85 in 3rd - again feel free not to believe me, I probably wouldn't if it was anyone else. The car had been modded when i got it, so I don't know if they did some serious upgrades. Or maybe it was just wind with slight downhill, whatever. And yes, I felt bad after I did it. Never again, or maybe once, just to make sure it wasn't fluke
EDIT: Also I said 'approaching' so it was like 67 or 68. Just thought it would sound stupid if I gave a precise figure. Last edited by adzar on Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:47 am; edited 1 time in total

so you got 70 in 2nd, then changed gear and only got 15mph out of 3rd gear?

No, the 3rd gear one was on a separate occasion and I could tell it was almost on the limiter, but didn't want to go right up to it.

Yes, that goes without saying. I'm actually a very reserved driver. Mainly because the difference in petrol consumption base on how you drive is huge. Before I thought it was just to get people to drive sensibly and barely had any impact, but it really does. That MPG calculator on the centre console rules me, haha! 999,9MPG cannot be argued with lol
#42: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 5:16 am ---- down hill out of gear? lol tell me about im averaging around 46/47 mpg atm

Yeah, it works in 5th too. Always a challenge to try to get it up to it, haha. Sorry for sending this topic off course btw. Do you have the standard air intake system at the moment, as I'm sure you know, induction kits increase consumption and may lose you some power.
#44: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 6:12 am ---- yeah got standard panel until i can get the money for my bmc panel. what about yourself?i was running a cone but was completely astonished at the heak soak of it!
#45: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 6:23 am ---- The car came with a cone, but it was fitted to the bottom of the air box so air could be drawn in through the drain unfiltered! It's got a standard paper filter and resonance box on atm. I quite like the idea of using down pipes to replace the resonance box and put a performance filter in the airbox. Why bmc rather than K&N?
#46: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 6:30 am ---- just reviews to be honest mate. ran a k&n in the 1.4tsi golf and made a lil improvement but then tried a bmc and it just felt alot more punchy and less restrictive.
plus few guys i no run bmc instead of k&n as they find now you pay for the name.
#47: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: adzar, Location: UKPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 7:11 am ---- The k&n has 47 pleats and the bmc has 31 (no doubt I counted wrong, but near enough). It does look like the material on the bmc goes further to the edge, whereas on the k&n the glue seems to have been put on quite messily.
Just some food for thought. Would be intersting to know the depths of these aswell. May ask to have a look at them both at eurocarparts and make my mind up there.
#48: Re: once again im after advice ... lol Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 7:18 am ---- yeah well thats what i was gonna do until one day we were standing round and 2 my mates have scobbys one with the k&n one with the bmc. and looked at them both and (somehow) they came up with that they would both prefer the bmc. same with people with rs turbos s3 tsi's etc all prefer the bmc. i think its less restrictive.
