Its such a shame the air vent on the drivers side of the engine bay is welded on, would make things alot easier if it could unscrew.

I have heard very good things about him if you have never done a cambelt on a 16valve engine i would not recommend it my dad is a mechanic as well and he look at my 180 and said fcuk doing a cambelt on that it would be a pain in the a**e
#20: Re: 180 Cam Belt Replacement Author: 206-GTi, Location: EssexPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:14 am ---- Battery and box was removed when mine was done. As under it is the section which allows you to move the engine over.
#21: Re: 180 Cam Belt Replacement Author: Ali_H, Location: Chichester, SussexPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 8:26 am ---- You can't do it yourself without the correct tools as IIRC it has a floating crank. My mate's a senior technician at Ford and he had to buy the specific equipment to do it... which cost more than he charged me to do it

a hanyes manual will help you or a autodata cd
Unfortunately the Haynes manual doesn't cover the 180.
well that is abit s**t what is the difference between the gti enginge and the 180
could we not use a gti manual
a LOT the timing is all totally different as the 180 has vvt and no keyway for the crank pulley
the haynes manual doesnt even cover the normal gti anyway
DO NOT attempt this unless you have the correct locking tools and confidence if you dont get it right you will be binning the engine!
#29: Re: 180 Cam Belt Replacement Author: -SDC-, Location: DevonPosted: Mon Nov 15, 2010 5:19 am ---- DONT TRY THIS YOURSELF.
Three specalist tools, my engine was basically taken out. The belt kits are expensive, I got mine from all parts for £90 including tensioners in the ends. Just say that to they that Euro Car parts are doing them for £92 or something.
My local garage charged me £200 to do mine. And they had two guys working all day on it. Went and spoke to one of the guys about it and he just said "what a complete pain in the ass!".
