Author: st3v3n, Location: Liverpool Drives: 206 GTiPosted: Fri Aug 27, 2010 5:28 pm ---- Before spending loads of money on stuff like dampers and springs get the basics sorted. The 206 is a great handling car from standard so first get yourself a decent set of tyres. The same ones all round. Ensure they are inflated to the correct pressure. get your tracking done. get your rear beam checked for wear in the stub axles for the trailing arms. check there are no worn components like top mounts or track rod ends. check all your dampers are working correctly
If all these are done you will have a far better handling and safer car than throwing away money on aftermarket stuff.

coil overs would be a cheaper option while still providing a decent improvment
Speaking from Experience? Which ones have you got?
I found a friends 206 on coilovers was a horrible drive.
I don't have any. My mate has some on his corsa which make a big difference. although it is a corsa.
Would have thought coilovers would make an improvment on a 206. like he said he was on a small budjet so they could be an option. Although I am aware uprated springs and shocks are a much better setup than coilies.

Does it really handle badly? My standard XS handles brilliantly, easy to chuck into corners and it sticks!
Do you have aftermarket alloys?
The difference between most standard and modified cars with properly done handling upgrades is massive, you probably won't know it until you try it.
#20: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 2:50 am ---- Oh I understand what you and Dave are saying but the OP makes it sounds like its horrible standard, which im puzzled at as I dont find it bad enough that makes me want to upgrade any parts.
#21: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: pete_206, Location: Ash, SurreyPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 2:54 am ---- Lower it sensibly (my personal preference for ride quality is only 30mm front, 20-25mm rear, plus on anything that isn't a Gti I don't see the point in making it look overly showy)
And get some wide tyres. I can't tell whether my 195's or current 205's are better... but either way both are farrr better then riding on the diddy lil 14" wheels! The difference in grip is like a dream when you give her a good pumpin'
Also, don't bother with overly expensive stuff unless you have a car that needs it. I've been riding on Gmax sus all round for nearly two years now and haven't been able to fault it once. The ride quality will be improved significantly by just dropping it a little bit and getting wider tyres. I know what its like to be on a budget!

It goes where I want it too, it just sways really badly especially at speed. Like going round a round about its just ridiculous! The second you begin to turn the whole car leans massively to the outer edge of the corner, the suspension just seems way too soft!!
So unlike you I see every reason to upgrade the way this car handles..
#23: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: Seabook, Posted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 3:16 pm ---- check my for sale thread, my old koni sports dampers are still avalible
#24: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: JordGJ, Location: Leeds / West MidlandsPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 3:17 pm ---- lower it on springs and shocks like dave said, will look better and be a lot stiffer so you won't get the body roll that you don't like
i have coilovers myself but everyone seems against them! I love the hard ride (not on bumps obviously) and i'm a bit anal about my car so tweaking it up and down until its perfect is good for me

Spax PSX suspension kit (50mm)..
#26: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: Dave, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Aug 28, 2010 5:35 pm ---- It is a harder ride than the bilstein/eibach set up. PM Ape as he used to run this iirc on his 206
#27: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Aug 29, 2010 12:58 am ---- Ape was too tight fisted to put Bilsteins on his car.
#28: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: Cai-206, Location: Tenby, PembrokeshirePosted: Sun Aug 29, 2010 4:40 am ---- Thats what I'm after really, I fancy quite a stiff set up. Ride comfort isn't as important as preformance I guess
I'll PM Ape now, as anybody else used these? Are they prone to breaking or are they reliable??
#29: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Aug 29, 2010 4:58 am ---- I can do you Vmaxx coilovers for £260 delivered.... had some good feedback about them... Meady on here has a set
#30: Re: What can be done too improve handeling?? Author: Cai-206, Location: Tenby, PembrokeshirePosted: Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:00 am ---- Whats the advantage/disadvantage of coilovers compared to a shock and spring set up?
