Just looking at swapping engines if the current 8v 1.4 gives up the ghost!, but instead of putting another 1.4 8v in, can you put a 1.4 16v in? And before anyone says put a 2l in, its my partners 2000 206 quiksilver and she wants cheap tax and insurance, oh and running costs!. And the 1.4 16v is 90bhp instead of just 75.

its definately possible as people on here have upgrade 1.1s to the 2litre so simply changing them over can be done, personally wouldnt though I would put a bigger engine in not just the 16v seems alot of effort.

As said though, the tax and insurance massively out weighs the swap if possible, put it this way, to get 15bhp from the 8v you are looking at over £1000. to get a 16v 1.4 i'm looking at £300. also the standard brakes and suspension and exhaust are all up to the 15bhp increase, if i was to put a 2l in, then i need the suspension, brakes, exhaust etc, and the engine its self! for the cost and hassle of all that i could sell it and get a 2l gti for alot less!, and the fact it will eat loads more fuel, cost loads more in tax and the insurance will cripple the car more than if it was a 2l gti!
I don't need out right performance as i have a 2.5l Bm. I would just like a nippier little town car that will cost the same, but drive with a little more gutts.
I just wanted to know if any body on here has done it? and what is involved!

For the effort the I'd want something a lot more, pretty sure it will raise insurance having a 16v aswell as the cars they come standard in are in a higher insurance group (correct me if I'm wrong). You don't have to get a 2l but a 1.6 or something would probably make it a lot more worth while. Just my opinion.

it can be done but more hastle than its worth, manifolds, exhaust, ecu etc.easier to change like for like and a lot cheaper.1.4 8v nice little engine for what it is.

I would imagine the Insurance would go up as the engine wouldnt be what came with the car originally (modification).

Would probably be alot easier just to get the same 1.4 8v TU3 lump.

the insurance would go up, but keeping the same cc it is classed as 1 modification!, changing cc is a different ball game!, a 1.6 is more tax!!,

not easily possible. The looms are different. 2000 cars are preplexed and 1.4 16v models are usually multiplexed. Really not worth the hassle for an extra 15bhp.

However, i think you could probably stick the 1.4 16v head on with a few tweaks and it should be ok.

edit: here's the easy option! www.206info.co.uk/Foru...15340.html

thanks, thats all i needed to know!, if electrically there is wires to add then thats a different kettle of fish!, i've done 2l vauxhall engines in to 1.8s, engine loom and ecu are with engines, all i had to do was add an ingnition live and an earth wire to the cars loom! but if the peugeot car loom is completely different then never mind!

IIRC there was a member who carried out a TU valver conversion quite recently. Have a look in the Projects section Smile

hold on u think it will take £1000 to get 15 extra BHP from a 1.4 8V? i highly doubt that, £100 get a decent induction kit, £300 4-2-1 manifold and full system and you would be getting that

A 15bhp peak bhp isn't worth the effort. There's hardly anymore torque so you aren't going to go much fast than before.

an induction kit will net you 2-3bhp max, manifold and exhaust system will give you 6bhp max!! and a chip max at 4-5 bhp with the other mods, there's a grand and thats not 15bhp. to many sites claim massive bhp from these things, but in reality you get no where near!, real world figuares. no normally asperated car can get big bhp from bolt on mods!, I got an sri 130 142bhp with an induction kit, exhaust and chip. thats 12 hp on standard book figs,,,, if i was to believe the hype i should of had 158!!!,,, never gona happen! and that was on a healthy2l, not a little modern engine.

but its all about the way its delivered! 16vs tend to rev better and be smoother in the delivery! the 8v tends to pick up to 3k then past that point the acceleration stops but the engine revs on up. with no real increase in speed.
