#199: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Fri Feb 04, 2011 2:12 am ---- If you are doing a lot of tarmac stuff its best to go all out and buy full rally tarmac tyres. I use Hankook slicks / dry tyres all round and then cut them if it gets wet or damp. They are quite expensive but they should last 2-3 events before they need changed.
Another thing that is worth looking at is that the rears should always have a small cut in them as the 206 has no weight over the back wheels.
Go for a good run and the tyres at the back sometimes arent even that hot. If this is the case then they need cuts in them to make them heat up faster and grip.
I would love to come down with the car. I will try and make an apearance at one of the events down here at some point

Thanks for that advice mate.... would be great to have you come down here for a set-up day, I have a tyre cutter and we are trying to source some moulded slicks at the moment.
#205: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Fri Feb 04, 2011 11:11 am ---- Yeh I will try get a weekend off fixing my own car to come give you a hand. I have all the Hankook tyres cutting guide which tells you exactly where and how to cut them for different weather conditions.
Whats and where is the next event?
#206: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Fri Feb 04, 2011 11:25 am ---- The next event for me will be the Essex Charity Stages.... its the last multi venue event in this area.... if you check Utube with that in the search you will see a bit of footage, Mainly concrete roads on the marshland and loose sea wall tracks with grass/gravel surfaces in the morning with broken concrete airfield covered in an assortment of c**p from soil to chicken poo..... nice. Most would run moulded all day but I am tempted to try gravels in the morning and switch to moulded PM. This event is on 3rd July I think.... The test day will be on the airfield part of the rally you can book it for the day for £100
Dillon.... fantastic nightime video..... you seem very good at that, is there something you wanted to tell us about nocturnal video skills
#207: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sat Feb 05, 2011 7:08 am ---- Trip to the main dealers today.... picked up the 22mm rear anti-roll bar to replace the standard one on the car
P00005170C9 R/ANTI-ROLL B £54.18
So for those who want to stiffen up your rears.... go main dealer(only works for GTi as 180 has it already)
Also picked up a new pinion gear bearing and retainer for the new gearbox for the car...... now we should have a better set of gear ratios to play with
#208: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: Kersh, Location: Bridgnorth, Nr WolverhamptonPosted: Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:06 am ---- interested as to why you chose the nimmies with the tarmac tyres. sureley there is a lighter wheel that would be more suitable??
#209: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:14 am ---- Ease of fitment and cost I would presume. You can pick up these standard wheels fairly cheap ones people want to upgrade to aftermarket alloys etc
#210: Re: Macs rally 206 project..Rally video footage page 12 Author: Mike, Posted: Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:14 am ---- Looking awesome fella!
The rear ARB is one of the best mods I've done to my car!
