#436: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Thu Jun 05, 2014 12:32 pm ---- Still waiting for news.... nothing yet but its looking like a tensioner problem. Can someone enlighten me as to which way you turn the centre (clockwise or anticlockwise) as I have now managed to confuse myself.
I am going down to Wiltshire tomorrow to take a look myself but I have a suspicion that when I get there I will find the tensioner done up the wrong way...... seen it before on this engine and it comes loos even if the pointer lines up with the notch to start with....... should have checked it myself
Be careful with oil pump. It can be explode at 9000 rpm. Lots of French guys know this problem. My GTI180 Turbo friend lost oil pump 2 times.
An update for you Schumi.... I have found a manufacturer of an upgraded oil pump for the EW10J4 and S engines........ wider rotor and made of stronger stuff..... I have one fitted in my new engine and have another pump coming.....
Is that company from France and name contains rally ? Dont complete name if you know.
No its not..... I am waiting on details and spec mate but judging by my engine there is/was a lot of oil getting to the head
#438: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: Schumi, Location: Istanbul / TurkeyPosted: Thu Jun 05, 2014 4:28 pm ---- You are still on hydraulic valvetrain right ? If you went to mechanical then you need to decrease diameter of one oil hole on cylinder head.
#439: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Thu Jun 05, 2014 4:50 pm ---- I am still on Hydraulics........ think I need to increase the size of the oil holes to sump to allow the extra oil to get away or fit drain pipes to cam galleries to evacuate the extra oil. At present its filling the catch tank
I need to sort the cam belt problem first though

What company are you talking about then?
Did you get down to inspect the engine - hoping it's not too bad for you

#442: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:55 am ---- It seems there is a bit of detonation on No.3 piston and I am waiting for the results of a full strip and injector tests
#443: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:27 am ---- not good hope you get it sorted, guessing next season now

#445: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:09 pm ---- No news yet on this. Still awaiting results of injector tests and engine strip. The engine builder is dragging his heals a bit
#446: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: PezHdi, Location: ShrewsburyPosted: Tue Jul 29, 2014 4:51 pm ---- I think you are being very patient,
I'd gone mad by now waiting.
Is there any reason there dragging there heals?
#447: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Wed Jul 30, 2014 12:38 am ---- Probably because I have asked for the cams to be taken out as part of the repairs and replaced with my own choice of Cat Cams
#448: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New engine now fitted Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sat Nov 22, 2014 11:54 am ---- Breaking news.... the engine builder has got the new forged pistons. After my ideas that the CR might be too high for the other mods (bigger valves and long duration cams) he has asked for the old piston measurements. He suddenly has decided to machine off the piston crowns to lower the CR on this build....... surprise, surprise!!
The engine will be refitted shortly and its going to a rolling road that he specified for mapping. I cant wait to see the outcome.
His prediction.... 250hp

#450: Re: Macs rally 206 project..New piston mods Author: andy83, Location: stoke on trentPosted: Sun Nov 23, 2014 1:42 am ---- just read this from start to finish great project and good to see the development, some serious power and the torque its making for an n/a 2.0 16v is unreal
unfortunately you always get setbacks with things like these.
look forward to seeing the results of the fresh engine build we could do with a few vids of it on the rollers
