#1: How do you check Author: juanfernandes, Location: LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 1:43 am ---- if a spoiler is a genuine gti spoiler?
Are there any tell tell signs you can pick up from a photo? Are there any serial numbers or marks on it that could be shown as proof?
Thanks

Well, I heard that non genuine ones can be s**t and a bit hit and miss. Some can bow in the middle.
#8: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:01 am ---- really there are some on here that arent genuine and they seem fine. iirc mrs howey has one?
#9: Re: How do you check Author: juanfernandes, Location: LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:02 am ---- Nice sig pic Dan.
Off topic, but what price should I be looking at to get it re-sprayed?
So far I've had a rough £120 (depending on the size of it - they said)
Another for £110 which included fitting.
Still over £100 sounds alot to me.

There was a debate on old info about it. Some people had had spoilers from Factory/Peugeot and they weren't stamped.
I am also 99% positive that when I took of Si (ExoVypers) spoiler it didn't have a stamp. Yet was a genuine one.
I am sre that Peugeot also were silly when fixing it, as at sometimes a bonding agent was used, other times it was bolted.
#11: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:02 am ---- pug spoiler
#12: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:03 am ---- cheers juan.

#13: Re: How do you check Author: juanfernandes, Location: LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:04 am ---- Well i'm bidding on one on ebay, and it's being sold as a genuine gti spoiler, so I wanted to make sure it is one.

It's at £31 + £10 p&p
I've just found a tailgate with a spoiler for £58 delivered - how easy is it to swap a tailgate?
#17: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:17 am ---- fairly easy iirc. but its the colour problem you may have?

Damm - good point, I just checked and it's black non-metallic. So that's a no go.
#19: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:21 am ---- trust me paint can be a girl thingy. my car is iron mettalic grey however there are 6 variants.... blue green yellow black white and red....
mine is the red one meaning it has more red in the mix then the other variants....
#20: Re: How do you check Author: juanfernandes, Location: LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:22 am ---- So far its the cheapest one I can find on ebay, genuine or not. As long as I don't get outbid.

Oh really!
All I know is that there are 2 codes for black, one is metallic and the other isn't.
#22: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:24 am ---- yeah but each code has diff variants thats where it gets tricky if you want an exact match lol

Right, how do you find your exact one then? Plus it wont make much diff. The spoiler will always looks different since the paint will be newer.
But it shouldn't stick out too much because of where it is, it would be a different story if it was a wing or something.
#24: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 4:38 am ---- indeed. bodyshops will find your exact as they have the software. i only know this as me old man does the training for it.
if you go halfords they will make it up to your black then test somewhere out of sight see if it matches if not go back and complain.
benefit of bodyshop is they do all the chasing and arsin around for you.

Yeah I'm not going to attempt something like a spoiler myself - I will bodge it
And since I'm a perfectionist, I'll see how imperfect the job was.

Been shopping around and still can find anything lower than £110
£41 for the spoiler + £110 to re-spray it and fit it = £151 - it's not not looking so attractive!!
#27: Re: How do you check Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 8:16 am ---- forget fitting do that yourself mate. only need a bit of tiger seal

Yeah I'm going to email them back and ask them for a price without fitting.
Most quotes I'm getting are between £100-£120. Might have to give it a miss I think.
