#1: 1.6 XS Hill Climbing/Sprint Car **FOR SALE** Author: Marky234, Location: Shrewsbury PostPosted: Sun Sep 12, 2010 9:18 am
    ----
As promised here is the project thread for the 206.

Just a quick insight into the project first. Basically ive been into rallying now for near on 18 years and have been doing the spanners for my mate on his 106 rallye for the past 4 years and decided i took the plunge and get behind the wheel.

got my national B stage rally licence earlier this year and started to hunt down a suitable car.

the 206 came up at the right price £250, needed abit of work but it was being stripped and alot of parts are being changed so its no problem. take no notice of the chav lights and 17's because they have quickly come off and been sold lol

Then the stripping process started. everything that wasnt needed came out and thrown away no point in selling it cause it was all nakered and ripped lol.

Then on one sunday i had a little helper for a few hours in the form of my 12 year old nephew and between us we did this lol

sunroof out (even though it did crack right down the middle as we took it out) that needs to be welded up

and dash out

and interior loom out ready to be opened up and all un-needed wires taken out

took the dash to work and cut out a big part of the support bar out from behind it to lighten it Very Happy

ends tig welded up to neaten them up

and bar back on dash

As i dont want a key floating around the car while im on stage im going for push start ignition so using where the radio should be i made a switch panel. Going in this panel will be battery cut off, Fire extinguisher (plumbed in), Main beam flasher (hooked up to a flasher unit to warn slower cars im approaching), washers, Master ignition switch and Push Start button.

so far ive mounted the master ignition and push start switch

Got a bargin off ebay 4 205 GTi wheels for £33 so went and picked them up and started the refurb on them. I shot blasted all 4 wheels, these will be going bright white.

need another set of these as the car is now sat on Xsara VTS wheels those will be refurbed and white aswell.

and this is the colour the car is going once its ready for paint (sunglasses at the ready)

this weekend i spent alot of cash at demon tweeks and ordered my OMP 6 point bolt in roll cage, and came home with 2 Sparco Sprint 5 seats, Sparco mountings, 2 TRS 6 point harnesses

thats it for now will get some more pics when i get back off my holiday

To build a car, not much

To enter rallies and maintain the car (if of high standard, eg impreza) alot Laughing

£5000 to build a good one... but you can produce a competitive group N car for far less

its a 1600 but plans for the future included either a Mi-16 or a rebuilt and tuned GTi 180 engine.

to build the car it cost bout £5000 as already been said but to enter rallies your looking at around the £400 mark per car depending on profile of the event. Events like the RallyGB are looking more towards £3000 to enter lol.

the reason behind the colour is its a works 206 super 1600 colour and when the total graphics are on and the cars finished it will look the nuts.

the one in the pic is the 206 maxi, super 1600 car used by justin dale, they were wide track proper works jobs, looked a hell of a tool but never really did that well, I never remebered it in that colour scheme either, normally a silver or a dark blue with the total graphics

Stick with the 138 engine as it has more flexibility than the 180

After standalone ecu and a mechanical butterfly 180 engines is better than 138 engines.

Same engine in many ways... VVT not needed, fly by wire is a pain, You need T/B`s to get good power and you will need to fit internals to make it bulletproof, No point in bying a 180 engine that is more expensive only to strip it to bits. Start with a 138, fit 12.5:1 forged pistons, rods and bolts. lighten and balance your bottom end and you got power with bodies. The money you save on buying a 138 over a 180 with probably buy your rods.

Trust me I have done all the homework.

I trust my self. Do you take your homework to teacher. What's your point. Smile

Just joke. Yeah VVT isnt need when you are doing high reving rally engine. But EW10J4S head is not based from J4 head. Its modified version oh EW12 head. That's really very good head. So 138 and 180 crank is not same. But of course if you are buying just engine from scrapyard and price is important i will buy 138 engine and complete engine rebuild with aftermarket parts. Actualy we are doing very serious project on 138 engine with n/a mods. I will post pictures and informations about project.

Right peeps time for a update.

not done alot to her sadly due to money flow problems, moving of house, and losing my job but i have managed to get the cage in roughly and drivers seat mounts made and welded in place.

need to weld the cage mounts in place and position co-drivers seat.

Now the Cage

because the car had a sunroof the cage wouldnt go past the tabs to fix the sunroof in so they had to come off

steering coloum out aswell to allow the front hoop to slide in because it sits behind the dash

finally got the rear hoop in and started to slide the front hoop in

to fit the mounting feet for the rear hoop we had to cut into the inner sills

and the end result

that was a saturdays worth of work with my mate

on the sunday the weather was to bad so didnt touch it but i had the monday off wor so me and my dad carried on and got the mountings in and both hoops of the cage in and door bars mocked up roughly where they have to be welded

thats it for now and i havent touched the car since.

but hopefully in the next month or so i will be moving to a house with a garage so i can work on the girl at night, i should manage especially with the new job at demon tweeks things should come along nicely

will keep you all updated as and when i get stuff done

Make sure you fully weld all your cage joints. The scrutineer will use a dentist mirror to see if you got right round the hard to reach places Confused

The colour scheme fpr the car is changing.

Now its going white with a black roof and black wheels.

Looking into a set of team dynamics pro race 1.2's for it in 15inch through work running toyo t1r's for the wet and toyo r888's or toyo r1rs for the dry.

I would suggest you budget for at least 10 wheels. You would do well to take dry and wet tyres to each meeting with one spare. If you get a puncture you can put the other spare in the car at service

Macj's are part worns i think. you wont get new R888's for £20 each.

there's a national shortage of new R888's in the country at the minute. Toyo cant produce them fast enough and even then they are only limited to 6 approaved Toyo dealers in the country Demon Tweeks being one of them.

Just come across this. Car looks good and its always nice to see another 206 rally car being built.

Bit of an underestimate on the costs mind you. Depends what you are building and what events etc your intending on doing with it but for an example of my costs last year:

Entry fee £800 - £1200
Tyres £600
Fuel £300 - £400
Acom + meals £400
Cost per event £2200

That doesnt include maintenance costs / damage to the car. Or the cost of the car itself which now at my current build point scares me a bit looking at it but its itro £13,000-16,000 and thats doing it on the cheap!! Smile

Rallying is defo a sponsorship needed sport Smile

Tarmac cars are slightly cheaper to build due to being able to use track parts.

Forest cars i admit are expensive but it all depends on how competitive you want to be. I'm competiting just for fun so my car isnt going to be a flying machine.

Entry fees depend on the event majority of the rallies round by me are around the £300-400 mark

Due to a change in circumstances i have had to change my plans for the car. It will still be a competition car but it will now be a hill climbing/Sprint car. So fully stripped out lightweight car. its cheaper and easier to do lol

Going to crack on this friday and get most of the welding done inside the car.

I do have for sale one Sparco Sprint 5 Bucket seat, TRS 6 point harness in red. All brand new still in original packing. Never used. Will sell togerther but will split for the right money. PM me for details. Pics can be seen in the topic.

Both seat and harness are in date so can be used on MSA/FIA events.

Did some work on the old girl yesterday.

didnt get much done or as much as i wanted but i managed to get the strengthening plates welded to the floor on the drivers side. Neatened up the welds for the seat rails, Mounted my seat and then worked out and drilled the harness eye bolt holes and got them fixed in.

Hoping in the next week of so the car will be with me at my house instead of my parents so work can carry on at a far quicker rate.

hoping to be out at my local hill climb at loton park this time next year.
