#1: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:23 pm ---- Sat at a ped crossing in a super market car park letting people past, sat well back giving it at least 6 foot of room as well. Dumb idiot woman with a shopping trolley struggling to control it as she cuts the whole crossing diagonally and (what I thought at the time) very nearly missed my car several times as she came past.
Just got home and noticed a big indent of where the corner of the shopping trolley has hit the mustache bit of my front bumper, and it weren't there before today either.
Can I buy a new front bumper strip or is this a new front bumper job?

Author: Jamie1337, Location: Dorchester, DorsetPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:29 pm ---- Yes you can buy a new one it's known as front bumper moulding, best bet would be look for one in a scrappy. Note there is a difference between sports and non sports though!
#3: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:31 pm ---- I always knew something like this would happen, and the woman didn't give a flying as she just looked and walked off. Couldn't do anything about it
But at least I don't have to get a new front bumper thats a releif, how much am I looking to pay?
#4: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Jamie, Location: Ring y0Posted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:32 pm ---- You'd have noticed if someone had hit your car mate, you can hear people brushing up against it so denting it would be unmissable.
#5: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: lee-180, Location: essexPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:32 pm ---- try your local body shop if its only a light dent n not split or to badly damaged they will probally be able to repair it for u .
#6: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:38 pm ---- Must have happened whilst it was parked couldn't have been to fault of my driving because I am extremely careful when driving, honestly wasn't there last night
Just drives me nuts as I cannot stand imperfections on my car lmao
That may be worth a try but it already had stone chips and a couple of scratches on it anyway, so on the bright side it will look new when it comes out. Would they be able to pull a dent out of plastic?
#7: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: lee-180, Location: essexPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:46 pm ---- yeah , they would heat it up n push it out from behind or use a plastic filler to remove it .
#8: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:50 pm ---- That sounds the easier option, thanks don't suspect you may know but how much would a job like this cost roughly? Cheers
#9: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: lee-180, Location: essexPosted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:54 pm ---- where i work would probally be between £60 - £80 depending on how bad but prices will vary from garage to garage .
#10: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: andre206, Posted: Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:54 pm ---- Tbh, i wouldn't bother changing that black strip just yet if its your only mark.
It's amazing when you actually get down how many grazes/scrapes i have on mine, where people have clearly knocked/nudged the car whilst trying to park next to me.
I think ill wait till i get a few more then change it, otherwise i'd be changing it monthly.

They pop into slots already formed in the bumper, just give it a good tug (making sure they're free from slots in some cases) and away it comes.

Had a look in the daylight today, stood two feet away you cannot see it, but I've been told if I taken it off and heated the back of it with a hairdryer I could push the crease out from the back

it does pop out but there are 3 torx screws in the top of the bumper that need removing first.1 in the middle and 2, either side just under the headlights.
#16: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 8:04 am ---- Oh damn, so its a bumper off job? Heard that takes ages and requires taking the arch liners out
#17: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Teebag, Location: exhall, bedworth, coventryPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:07 am ---- they can be heated up and pushed out but often wont be 100% doing this and will require a bit of filler work. its a simple enough repair to do tho
#18: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:29 am ---- I was thinking about ways I could try and fix it without taking anything out, and thought maybe I could mask loads off and sand the paint off the area, filler and rattle cans, though would it look a bit of a botch job? I would imagine blending the paint to the surrounding area would be hard

no mate you can get a small torx bit under the head light unit to undo the screws but the grill will need to be removed from above the bumper
#20: Re: Dumb idiot + shopping trolley VS my front bumper. Author: Andrew, Location: Black Country Ay IPosted: Mon Sep 27, 2010 10:20 am ---- Cool, with a bit of hindsight I ordered some replacement clips for that job in case I break some, are these the right ones do you know?
I presume I have to take out the grill vents that surround the peugeot badge, pull the grille out (is there anything holding this in?) and then get at the bump strip? Its only a very faint dent, in the shape of a line where the dent is so i reckon i can heat it and push it out if the plastic is thin enough
