#1: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: myke, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:51 am ---- I'm so p**sed.
It was parked, this woman was reversing and reversed into the rear driver side. Luckily it's not that bad, but she's given me her insurance etc. etc.
I'm just p**sed because I'd just got my little pug perfect and people were admiring how well my car is looked after... then I get this.
and thing is, i dont know if my rear bumper is a sport one or not either so idk if the insurance will try and bump me off with a standard one
pretty annoyed. drivable but yeah.

this is one of the reasons why young drivers insurance is so much making fraudulent claims
#5: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: myke, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Sep 28, 2010 9:58 am ---- na I wasnt in the car - wouldnt make a fake claim anyway; the woman lives across the road and has taken all the blame so it's good.
It's a look model but I think it had a few things done to it as previous owner ... idk.

i dont think it would have sports bumpers then, unless youve told your insurance you've got them on you'll probably just get a standard one put back on.
but there cheap enough to buy anyway if you wanted to put them on

He's also the reason the insurance in my 1st year cost the same as the car itself.

I'd be over the moon if my insurance cost the same as my car did. Instead, my insurance costs 3347, and my car cost 650.
#20: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:14 am ---- Seems like the days of having a bit of a minor damage bump settled at the roadside have gone.
Depending on how bad the damage is, by the time you pay the excess and the increased premium for the next few years, it can work out cheaper to pay cash for the repairs. If you haven't contacted the insurance already, go get a quote from a garage. Do the neighbourly thing and go and see her and explain that it could cost her more by going through the insurance and show her the quote. She might write you a cheque there and then. You go get the style of bumper you want (insurance will only pay for what it left the factory with unless you get a nice repairer who orders the wrong part), and then any body damage gets done by the repairer of your choice.
If you have told the insurance, with some companies you might still be paying an increased premium for the next 5 years for a non fault claim.

No they won't, you have the right to have the car restored to the condition it was before the smash. Same as you can take it to a repairer of your choice no matter what they may say otherwise.

pretty sure that will only be the case if you declared any modifications, OEM or not, on your policy
#23: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 1:44 pm ---- All depends on your insurer and what the policy covers you for, so arguing about it is pointless.

#25: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 1:54 pm ---- If you go to a non insurance approved repairer it can take longer for the repairs to be authorised, and if the insurance company don't have an account with the repairer then they can delay releasing your vehicle back to you until the payment has cleared. Most insurance approved repairers can start work immediately upto a certain amount without having to wait for authorisation, that's why it's better to use them rather than choose one of your own if the insurance are picking up the tab.

Not in a no fault accident it doesn't. The others insurers have a duty to put you in a position as you were before. That's why you can also claim hire car costs during the repair.
#27: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:08 pm ---- I wouldnt touch an insurance approved repair place with a barge pole, most of them just churn out endless p**s poor repair jobs.

Dunno why it's come back alive, but my car was fixed, and it was done pretty well. Her insurance rung me the next day or the day after I think it was, and they told me they'd be here to collect it soon and they'd leave me a courtesy car if I needed it, I was alright, didn't need it. They offered me travel money if I needed it, which I didn't. They took the car, it was away from a Sunday to a Friday and it was fine, they'd put a new rear quarter on, sprayed it and it looks perfectimundo, and I'm really picky when it comes to things like that but they did a really good job. Her insurance was really good, can't fault them.
#35: Re: My car just got hit up the bum! Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:09 am ---- Glad it got sorted Myke. Quite a major repair job then really if the rear quarter was replaced.
I used to hate the picky customers. When they came out with "that door gap isn't the same same as that one" the answer was always, "It's a mass produced car, what do you expect" unless it was a Rolls Royce driver (Rolls owners are all right, Rolls drivers are just plain arrogant) and the answer was "It's a hand built car, what do you expect" Run the car into the workshop, pass it to a fitter and watch them as they stick the jack under the door to level it up. Luckily that place as shut now, but the practice will still go on.

The thing is, when something like that happens it's expected that the car will come back with tiny little things like door gaps not the same, it doesn't really bother me because I've been lucky with my repairs that it's come back almost perfect. They should be glad that the car was able to be repaired to a state of satisfaction! I'm happy with my car
