#1: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Resolutionary, Location: South West LondonPosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:38 am ---- I was checking out Pistonheads whilst on the car-site rounds, and saw a thread about the GTi 180. A member of their forum was looking at getting one and I thought some of you may like to read and contribute to the debate for and against! Some interesting opinions

#3: Re: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:50 am ---- Typical stupid comments like the one about not moving the master cylinder. Lots of small cars are done like that when converting the RHD.
The driving position isn't perfect but neither is the Clio. Also why would anybody choose a 106 GTi or a 205 as an everyday prospect over the 206? Good cars back in the day but refinement and safety are a generation behind. People also think the 205 is some sort of supercar in the corners but it's nothing special these days.

Not every 206 has those colours

I don't see why most people worship the 205, top gear and fifth gear refer it as the "icon"
205 looks s**t

If you've ever driven a 205 GTI you might understand

Steady now, bet you have never driven one!
#9: Re: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Ali_H, Location: Chichester, SussexPosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 12:38 pm ---- I don't get why so many dunces still compare every hot hatch to the 205... no modern day car will ever have the same handling because all the modern day additions and safety add-ons required by law make it impossible.

#11: Re: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 12:50 pm ---- I was shocked by the build quality of the 205 even when it was still in production. At the time I was 18 and had a Skoda Rapid!

1978 Skoda S100 [UAB 488R]
1979 Skoda Estelle 120L [RUJ 994R]
Fortunately he bought an Audi 100 GL-5E not long after [NWP 499T]
#14: Re: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 2:44 pm ---- They were great cars to learn the art of car control in. They'd understeer, lift off oversteer, do little power slides (in 1st gear only though!) and were far more entertaining than any of the front wheel drive cars available back then. Those only brought up with FWD cars missed out on so much.
I remember the front page of Autocar at the time "what handles like a Porsche, is more fun than a GTi and costs only £4200?"
#15: Re: 206 GTi 180 Discussion on Pistonheads Forum Author: Antix, Location: WorcesterPosted: Sat Oct 02, 2010 3:16 pm ---- I remember the smell, the noise behind you in the rear, the fingers pointing from onlookers, the hideous yellow/gold colour.
Then the saleswoman - 'wondering' where the engine was, what side the 'bonnet' opens, where the battery was.
There was no fun involved with it.
Except selling it.
For another one
