#1: Which way shall I go.... Author: T_bandery, Location: East londonPosted: Thu Oct 21, 2010 6:10 pm ---- Going to pickup a 206 GTi tomorrow as someone made me an offer on mine which I couldn't resist.
So on with the new car what's the best way to go?
Styling(bodywork, audio, lowering e.t.c.) or Power (cams, throttle bodies e.t.c)
I have been reading project threads for the past few hours and still haven't found my answer, some advice would be great.
The car has a few freebies such as two dented wings and a dent in the rear quarter panel, so need that sorting out first
some pics of the new car...
I am just confused on what to do lol btw I am only 19 so keep everything sensible, no turbos yet
#2: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: JordGJ, Location: Leeds / West MidlandsPosted: Thu Oct 21, 2010 6:18 pm ---- not really a question other people can answer is it :/ depends what you want, looks or performance? Need to decide urself really

PERSONALLY though I would go for looks first as it's already a gti so fair bit of power however it looks pretty naff atm, seriously needs some jazzing up. But that's just me

Agree with this^ if it was me, looks
#5: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: meady, Location: basingstokePosted: Thu Oct 21, 2010 11:13 pm ---- Yeh i would go for looks and u say nothing stupid like a turbo because your 19 dont u think tb's would make the insurance go up a fair bit

I agree about going for looks, but in fairness to the OP, he said no turbo's himself.
#7: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: Jordan_xsi, Location: IpswichPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 1:23 am ---- Deffinatly looks first then move on to performance once your happy with how it looks
#8: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: AusScare, Location: Brisbane, AustraliaPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 1:43 am ---- Here's my list of things to do, and in this order:
Debadge, dewiper, stubby antenna, cupra lip.
Headunit and speakers.
Coilovers.
Tint and better headlight bulbs.
Griffiths quick shift.
Better brakes.
CAI.
LSD.
Turbo (or new car by this point)
In my opinion of course, but it will make it an all round good daily, you'll be able to keep up with the better cars around the mountains, and it's just too expensive to get alot of power out of the engine.
#9: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: VorTechS, Location: Gloucestershire, UKPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 1:56 am ---- I'm going to disagree with everyone else.
If your ultimate aim is to go for power (which usually ends up being the case once you've done all the styling mods) - leave the car styling as standard, and spend the money tweaking the power as best you can.
Although I love my car to bits, I kinda of wished I'd gone down this route.
#10: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: crossie, Location: BirminghamPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:14 am ---- I went for looks first this might give you some ideas lol
#11: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:31 am ---- If going for power you better have deep pockets
Throttle bodies will cost upwards of £2k then once you have more power you'll need bigger brakes & up-rated clutch etc
Some insurers don't increase the premium on non-performance mods. Just get it looking better for now.
#12: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: Antix, Location: WorcesterPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 2:41 am ---- Styling (plus suspension) first.
If power was your objective you'd have bought a different car to begin with (one with more potential for less money)

#17: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: T_bandery, Location: East londonPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:09 am ---- I was on the lookout for GTi 180 but the insurance on them is ridiclous and after reading through Jamie's thread I wasnt really sure if the 180 was a car that can be put on throttle bodies ...
Thanks crossie for the pictures, looks really nice but needs to be lowered!!!! lol

I have been doing s**t loads of overtime to save up for ITBs but after giving adrian flux a call think bodies might not be an option
Think styling it is then...
#18: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: Big_Rich180, Posted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 6:07 am ---- I think at 19 if you put ITB's or cams on your insurance company isnt even going to lube you up when you tell them

i no he said no turbos. In my post tb's means throttle bodies.
What i am saying is surely throttle bodies would put the insurance up just as much as a turbo yet he is quite happy to have the throttle bodies???

Not good then
Sort some better suspension and brakes out, will make a world of difference.
#22: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 7:54 am ---- I think you should go for looks first. then go for performance once you have had it for a while and you will notice the power increase more

This is a good point, i would personally colour code, spoiler and new wheels.
#24: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 9:02 am ---- look and performance never match up
#25: Re: Which way shall I go.... Author: meady, Location: basingstokePosted: Fri Oct 22, 2010 9:10 am ---- Plus whats the point in havin the power if you dont have the suspension to help put it down and the brakes to stop on time

Sorta defeats the point of having performance mods
