#1: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: JDave, Location: Airdrie, ScotlandPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 8:20 pm ---- Hi,
Put in £60 and filled the car up. Quarter a way through my tank now and I have done 80 miles. So by the time its empty it will be 320 miles.
Is that good? I fly through that. Nearly once a week
Thanks
JD

#2: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Marni..206, Location: S. DevonPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 8:55 pm ---- Lol all I know is something other than my car is drinking my gas.
And no I dont think thats good... Im sure I was talking to someone else on here with a 1.1 and we both fill up £40ish and he gets about 300 miles I think he said. I dunno how many miles I get my clocks p***** up right now so some days I apparently dont travel and others ive driven to the moon and back, all the while travelling the same distance everyday.
EDIT:
Infact heres a pm I got sent for the 1.1
Well, i normally fill up before the last quarter, and that costs me around £35-40. It'll then last me about a week and a half with the daily commute. About an hour driving every day. Sometimes more.
I generally aim to get 300 miles out of the first 3 quarters before filling up, but it's not happening atm. I'm lucky to 280.
So I would say no its not good?? Someone correct me if im wrong

#5: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Twidly, Location: Home - Norfolk, Uni - PrestonPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 3:42 am ---- I can fill my car up with about £45 & get from here to Blackpool & back (460 miles) I love diesels (:
#6: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 3:45 am ---- 320 miles, Jesus...I can get over 600 on a motorway haul, about 500 cutting about town.
#7: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: kiph, Location: Chelmsford, EssexPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:16 am ---- Hmmm - I got about 400 out of my 1.6 - around 330 of those on Motorway - and that was with a fairly heavy foot.
#8: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:18 am ---- Ignore the guage, it's a guide that's all. Brim the tank again and get your caclulator out to work out your MPG.
#9: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Geoff, Location: Evesham, WorcestershirePosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:47 am ---- You have to remember the tank isn't square - which makes reading the gauge as Ed said a guide only.
I have found with the top quarter, I got about 100miles while the third quarter I can get 150miles.
Edward - I would guess your Jetta will be the same, does it stay at full on the gauge for 100miles and then start moving?
#10: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 4:51 am ---- I guess they are all similar...I say they have V shaped tanks.
#11: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Mike, Posted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 6:00 am ---- I get around 300-350 from my 1.4 8v to the tank, problem is I only do town driving so it's always stop and start driving.

You need to find somewhere cheaper to fill up.

Wheres the cheapest in Evesham..? I won't use the one up by the Police Station and only fill up at Tesco or Morrisons.
It's not long now till the SW is on the road so roll on the diesel and 500+ miles.
#16: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Seabook, Posted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:09 am ---- 600+ on motorway
500+ town+motorway
#17: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:16 am ---- Clearly HDI is the way to go for good fuel consumption then.
At least if I ever upgraded to a 180, my fuel consumption would be nearly the same lol. Wouldn't be too much of a shock.

My previous car was a 1.8 petrol in which I did ~14k/year, now i do ~20k/year.
You soon learn how to have a much lighter right foot in order to save yourself literally hundreds of pounds over the year. It's not all about what speed you do, it's how you get to it, and how you control it. I don't speed alot but by no means but I don't do 50 when I can do 70 legally either in order to save a few quid.
When I went up north I got ~575 miles out of a full tank, and did the 350 miles on the way back in just over 6 hours, so not exactly slow either.

i would have to agree, i managed to get from bristol to rochdale, via stoke, with a 1/4 of a tank
#25: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:01 pm ---- I got almost 120 miles to 1/8th of tank - £5 to £10
( after i ran out of fuel and had to push it two miles to a petrol station )
#26: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Lodey, Location: Penzance & Falmouth CornwallPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:01 pm ---- 400miles from a really long run and maybe 200 from normal driving get in
#27: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: JDave, Location: Airdrie, ScotlandPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:55 pm ---- My car is a 1.9 diesel so it doesn't make much sense I dont think. And its costing me a fair bit to keep this up!!!
Does that information change if its good or bad?
#28: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: Twidly, Location: Home - Norfolk, Uni - PrestonPosted: Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:57 pm ---- It's still bad. My mum's is one of those & it would do 460 miles on £50 - £55 so almost a full tank!
#29: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: MrBombHead, Location: Horchurch, Essex, LondonPosted: Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:39 pm ---- I find that the first 1/3 of my tank goes really quick, and then makes up for it on the last 2/3's.
I've just bought my 180 GTi and I struggle to get 300 miles out of a full tank. In fact, last full tank ( brim to just as the fuel light came on ) was 260 miles.
#30: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: robertmarcs, Location: carmarthenPosted: Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:43 pm ---- it help putting a good quality fuel in. ill probably get shot down for this but ive been using tesco fuel for about 8-9 months now! but when the mot was due i stuck 1/2 tank of shell optimax in. and ill tell u that u CAN feel the difference. butive yet to see if it gives me any better fuel consumption.
#31: Re: 320 miles to a full tank? Author: LeeUK, Location: NorthumberlandPosted: Mon Nov 15, 2010 1:14 pm ---- I get about 320 miles on a full tank too. 1.4 petrol. Mostly around towns and a bit of dual carriageway.
