It's ridiculous just because I can't afford to go to the nurburgring as I am busy studying and there's not enough jobs in portsmouth as it is. I'm not allowed to have a sticker that does not actually claim that I have been there!!

I'm not pretending it's the Victoria Cross, I'm just saying it actually means something to me, it isn't just some iconic fad, ie "I'll put the sticker on to look cool"...

I can see some people understand where I'm coming from, and to me they're the real petrolheads off the site!

I'm not being funny, and certainly not trying to offend you, but why would you want it? I wouldn't want it if I hadn't been...

Another word for supporter is fan, & you can be a fan or support a race circuit just the same.

That isn't the same as your initial argument...
You can support a sport, but I don't see many people religiously following Old Trafford!

Its called pride.
For example you could pretend to cook your girlfriend dinner and use a ready meal. Sure she wouldn't know and she'd be impressed but inside you know that you are lying and you should have cooked the meal from scratch.

(Can you tell I'm hungry Laughing )

like I was saying nowhere does it actually say that you have been to nurburgring! Also if I had the money to go I would probably have spent it on my car and not paying for petrol to go and race my 1.6 round a track that mainly people in Porsche's and fireblades race round. I'm gonna wait till I've got a pretty decent job and then get a nice car and go in that until that time why am I not entitled to have a sticker that claims nothing, but looks nice and adds a little volume to my bare car

Would you drive around with an Isle Of Wight outline on the back of your car tho? I doubt it.

It's an image thing, and if you've not been I dont see why you'd want to display it.

It's not just the 'ring that has track stickers. Most race tracks have them and they were a sign of what track days you had done, and was a way to show your track day expertise (similar to WWI aircraft carrying symbols of what aircraft they have shot down). Most tracks don't allow you to buy them without racing the circuit either.

The recent popularity of the 'ring has made it fashionable to wear the track sticker on your car, and those that haven't been and still wear them make a mockery of a true car enthusiast tradition of displaying track symbols, which goes back to before stickers when the map was painted onto cars.

I suppose they'll go out of fashion eventually and everyone will strip them off. Apart from the true enthusiast of course.

id put £100 on the fact that when you saw his "nurburgring" sticker you automatically assumed he hadnt been Wink and people who drive past you will do exactly the same. at the end of the day its only a sticker. it can removed as easily as it was applied.

tbh jamie i think the fact that you believe you "earnt" the sticker is a joke in itself. did they award you it for successfully completing the circuit? or did you buy it from the gift shop afterwards?

give the guy a break. maybe he joined here to get some help and info on the euro style to set him in the right direction.

rant over

I assume you believe that when a man plays for England he has "earned" his cap?
I am in no way suggesting what I did was of equal magnitude, but I deserve to display that sticker a damn sight more than anyone who buys it off eBay. I agree 100% with what Luke and Ali have said, people do it because they think it looks cool. Why not have the outline of Britain or France on the back of his car? Why the Nurburgring? Why not Coombe? I'll tell you why, because they think people will see the sticker and assume they've been. Why not have one of their local town? Because everyone recognises the 'Ring!
Ps Matt, I bought it from the Official shop at the end of my stay, and I was happy to give them the business to be honest!

so your comparing your holiday to a footballer earning his living doing their job?

im sorry if i hit a nerve, but you didnt earnt it, fair play you went there and have "a sticker". but you know aswell as i do, people who drive past you will be thinking i bet hes never been. so the fact that you have been, to them is irrelevant as they dont know you Wink

as for why dont we all have an outline of our local town on our cars, im not saying a word Rolling Eyes

Ps Before you die, you see the ring

If you read it you'll see I said I didn't suggest it was of the same magnitude Wink
