#1: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:05 am ---- Hi guys, well I've got a bit of a problem.
I've got a 206 that I'm breaking & I've sold the engine, however I don't have an engine crane.
Its been dropped out of the car via a jack & blocks of wood, and its now sitting on blocks of wood.
Now I need get the engine out from under the car & up my driveway so a courrier can collect it from the road.
But as I said I don't have an engine crane. But problem is the driveway is all gravel, so a pallet truck won't roll.
I can possibly get some help & man handle it onto a pallet, but then the pallet needs moving up the drive.
I have access to:
Blocks of wood.
A trolley jack
Wooden boards
A pallet truck
An angle grinder.
A pallet
Here's how it currently sits.
So how would you reccomend I move it?
I've got an idea in mind but its a bit long winded.
The person that works out the solution wins a part from the 206 up to the value of £20, or some other goodies

Then just wack the engine on a pallet and drag it up the yard
#3: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: ExoVyper, Location: Waiting for the tugboats to push me into port (Whitehaven)Posted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:10 am ---- can you not dig the gravel out in two channels and put the blocks of wood in so you can make a temporary road for yourself?
then you could just roll the pallet truck out over them
#4: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: Mrs_Howey, Location: WorthingPosted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:10 am ---- i would say use the wood to leaver it up to the get the trolley jack under neath to get it up off the floor, of course i would say get a couple of people to help you keep it on the trolley jack, if you have enough wooden boards, line them up down the drive, and try to move the jack down the wooden boards, and also put the pallet at the end of the drive,
Or you could man handle it into the 206 your breaking and roll the 206 down the drive (if it has wheels) and then left it out on to the pallet.
I'll keep thinking how else you could do it
I can see the pic now, could you not jack the car up and put it on axle stands surely that should give you just enough room to move it out Last edited by Mrs_Howey on Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:12 am; edited 1 time in total
#5: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:12 am ---- Lift the body up over the engine with a few friends & roll it backwards.
Put the wooden boards down on top of the gravel for the pallet truck.
Lift the engine on to the pallet.
Pick it up with the pallet truck & roll it where needed.
OR
Borrow a counter balance truck & all your problems are solved

We did attempt to lift the front of it but its pretty heavy still.
There is a small pond behind the car so it cant be rolled backwards.
I'm thinking of cutting the front out with the angle grinder & dragging it out.

Tell the buyer its out the car & they can come move it themself
#8: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: CD-B3, Location: Salisbury / New ForestPosted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:14 am ---- Oh and shell cant be rolled over as the doors & glass is still in it and they're needed. Plus there are bushes all around it.
#9: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:14 am ---- I once lifted a engine into a van with 2 guys,,

I tried that but I had to give a refund as the courrier needs it at the top of the drive as the lorry cant get through the gate.
#11: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: panason1c, Location: SomersetPosted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:15 am ---- Get a few friends round to lift the car clear, then lay planks along the gravel drive to form two tracks so that you can drag the engine (on a pallet) along using a tow rope and someones car with a towbar fitted.

I was thinking of something along those lines, but lifting it onto a pallet, thats on a pallet truck on a wooden board. And then rolling the pallet truck via laying down boards.
Just after other ideas incase someone had a better one.

Put engine on wooden board put a hole in wooden board tie a piece of rope threw it and drag down the drive with another car. Just an idea.

A lorry cant get down the drive due to the gate & cattle grid

Cutting the slam pannel is the plan, but I don't want to drag it though the gravel as the engine may topple off, or the pallet will get dug into the gravel.

You can if you like. Then reassemble at the top of the drive.

Tie the engine to the pallet so it doesn't move, then tie some rope to the car and the pallet, and rag it up the drive
Done that many of times, for moving other stuff
#20: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: NICKST, Location: Little hulton (worsley)Posted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 11:24 am ---- You need a flat piece off wood to drag it down the drive then put it on a pallet at the bottom of the drive.

#24: Re: A puzzel / problem (moving an engine) Author: bellevuespares, Location: ManchesterPosted: Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:57 pm ---- Id simply cut away the front panels, lay down a 8x4 sheet of ply, slide engine onto it, pull from under the car by the board, then lay your pallet next to engine and lift it on, strap it on pallet, and use the 8x4 as the floor to tackle the gravel, have a 8x4 sheet of ply ready at the cattle grid and the jobs a gooden:)
