Well, I had hoped the car would be lowered by now, but turns out there's been a hold up with my order for the Weitec's, and it'll be another week and a half until Kam Racing even get them in. It seems I don't do too well with bits for my car that have to come from Germany, if any of you remember the saga with my MAM wheels!
In other news I've got the Mono's looking a bit more respectable, they had a fair amount of chips in the paint round the lips, and with them being black the silver chips were quite noticeable, so I've touched them up with some satin black paint and they look much better now. I've also added some red rim tape to 'make them my own' and put a bit of a twist on them, and I'm pretty pleased with the results, no pics as yet I'm afraid though! It kinda highlights the tyre stretch though, I'm hoping once they're on you'll see red wheel lips poking out when looking at the back of the car, but yet you can hardly see the tape when looking at the wheels face on.

Pictures or its all lies lol
#50: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - Compomotive TH Mono's - page 2 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:30 pm ---- Still waiting on the coilovers, TBH I'll be surprised if they come tomorrow, or should I say today (Friday), be lucky if Kam Racing have had them in let alone sent them out.
Only update, if you can call it one, is I did a test fit of 2 of the wheels yesterday, it looked stupidly high, but ignoring that fact it did look awesome, plenty of poke! The red rim tape has had the desired effect aswell, when looking at the car directly from the rear you can see the red lip . And from the front the rim tape goes really well with the red pinstripe grille!
I'd say the front wheel looked to be poking more than the rear actually, but I'll see how it looks lowered. As standard the rear wheels do sit too far inside the arches though so it makes sense. Might have to space the rears out slightly in future.
Whilst I had chance I also weighed the current and new wheels, both weighed in at 15kg each so I'm pretty chuffed with that! Was a little worried the Mono's would be heavier as they're wider wheels, really don't want to lessen the car's acceleration if I can help it!
No pics I'm afraid . My excuse is, I bought some cheapo batteries, and they don't work in the camera, it turns itself off as though they're not powerful enough to make it work. Crap excuse I know , but part of me wants to save the pictures until it's all done anyway! I did take pics on my phone, not sure I want to post them or not though
Another thing I've recently purchased is red tint film for the rear lights. Rather than tint the whole light though I'm going to cut a oval out to cover the white reverse light, basically so the whole light looks red. This is often done on the mk1 TT and works well. I've bought some LED bulbs for the reverse lights which will hopefully shine white through the film, or close enough, but we'll see.
Quite fancy a full 'gimp mask' aswell , partly because I'm driving to Newquay in it in May, and partly because I just like them because it will confuse people and attract attention , so if I can manage to find a GTI specific one that might be happening soon-ish.

Those ones I looked at had a missing centre cap and stuff.... the centre would have needed spraying black to match and I don't know what paint is on the centres, so that put me off them. To buy a fully refurbished set you're looking at over a grand easily. The Mono's came up and they were at a good price etc.
#53: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - Compomotive TH Mono's - page 2 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 12:13 pm ---- Small update - all red rear lights. Good old Lamin-X
Here's an old pic of the rear to show how the lights did look:
#54: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update on page 4 Author: Mikey2uk, Location: StevenagePosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 12:21 pm ---- Looks good Ross, whats reversing like now do you still get the same light out put?
#55: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update on page 4 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 12:28 pm ---- Hmmm, there lies the problem . I replaced the reverse light bulbs for LED ones in the hope I'd get something near white light, but it didn't work as well as expected as they light up pink!
It wont fail the MOT as I don't think the reverse lights are tested, but I also don't want to confuse other drivers and pedestrians. I like the all red look though so I think it will be staying as it is!
#56: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update on page 4 Author: Mikey2uk, Location: StevenagePosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 12:32 pm ---- I think your right about MOT, it really does look good starting to take shape nicely now.
You always have the special touch when it comes to styling
#57: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update on page 4 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 12:38 pm ---- Cheers mate, I feel honoured
It will really begin to take shape once the bloody coilovers are here, I'm gonna be rather upset if they don't show up next week... especially after trial fitting 2 of the new wheels.... I may post a sneaky teaser pic actually...
#58: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update on page 4 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:05 pm ---- Ok, here's a teaser from my trial fit of the wheels. The pic shows one of the front wheels.... POKE

That looks pretty sick mate...what ET are they? or are you running spacers with them?
#60: Re: Ross' VW Lupo GTI - small update and teaser pic - page 4 Author: Ross, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:26 pm ---- They're ET25 mate, no spacers. Might look to space the rears out in future though but I'll see how it looks once it's lowered
