#1: HDi TLC project. - Now with history from purchase. Author: pedro_keil, Location: Sittingbourne, KentPosted: Tue Dec 14, 2010 12:32 pm ---- Time has come to give my trusty D turbo some TLC.
After letting sit in front of the garage for 18mths or so, it has started looking sorry for itself.
It's had some changes since I've had it.
This is when I 1st brought it back in 2003 as the 2nd owner (I had the SP grill and alloy fuel cap fitted at the dealer when I brought it):
Some subtle changes: Trims colour coded, clear rear fog and high level brake light. (please ignore the 'sport' badge, I was young and misguided then lol)
Some more subtle changes: Mirrors and handles colour coded, spoiler and 17's fitted.
I added the later design rear light clusters at some point too.
Now in need of TLC
Cosmetically it's not horrific but the laquer has seen better days and the trims look rough (peeling mainly)
Mechanically its not too good The rear axle has gone, surprise surprise!, the alternator has seized and its lost a fog light!
I took all the wheel arch liners off today and prepped the rear subframe to come down (just gotta release the hand brake cables from the drums), back box is off as well as the bumper. I'll stick a few more pics and info this week and hopefully by the new year, it'll be fixed and tested ready for the road Last edited by pedro_keil on Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:47 am; edited 5 times in total

Yeah it had some idiot in a van at work creased the wing so it was replaced. Thats pi$$ed me off as it was done over 2 years ago!!
New wing to add to the WIP me thinks LOL

Hi there.
Mine is the 2.0 HDi. I think the Dturbo had the same spec as an XSi so mine came with the sports body and interior.
Albeit I now know I have a std front wing

Alternators!! - Not funny. enough said!!
what a pain in the ar$e gettin that little git out!
Being the fact that I'm an engineer by trade I thought I would tackle it without the aid of 'how to'or a manual.
Oh joy of joy when I realised the whole bleeding nose basically comes off!!
Anyways, 1 grill, 2 headlamps, 1 bumper and 1 horn later I get stuck into dropping the air con pump (pipes still on btw) and getting the little git of an alternator down. Phew!!
A well earned smoke and a brew, job half done lol
Rear sub frame almost ready to come out.
Wrongly previous bloody wing taken off!! <whilst cursing!!> awaiting a proper replacement!

Alternator and fan belt done and running lovely
Front end back together and whilst headlamps were out checked and found/replaced some defective lamps.
Rear axle and subframe dropped and stripped.
Axle cleaned, rubbed down and primered. (subframe arms/mounts to do).
Bearings removed from swing arms and all cleaned up ready for a lick of paint and new bearings.
To do prior to MOT:
Complete painting and fitting subframe,
Press in swing arm bearings, grease and fit up,
Fit rear brake mounting plate and fit new brake shoes,
Clean and paint drums and press in new bearings then fit,
Bleed brakes,
Replace a few crappy (split) arch liners,
Fit wheels, backbox and rear bumper back.
Clean and go
There probably a few iccle bits missing to do, but thats the bulk of it.
Then with a bit of luck, it passes and I can get on with freshing up and do a few more iccle mods.
Oh and fit some ICE, I never got round to doing it all the years I've had it LOL

Usually people just replace the whole axle.

It was not too bad to strip down tbh.
Plenty of WD-40 and a day to soak sorted it.
Just gotta order some bearings on Monday and will have them up fitted by next weekend if the weather is kind.

Changed the CC phase 2 rear lights I had fitted for hatchback ones,
Replaced number plate lamps as both were blown,
Fitted up subframe - now all clean, painted and shiny,
Swing arms painted - again now nice and shiny
Door mouldings primmered and 1st coat of colour on,
Shark fin aerial primmered and 1st coat of colour on.
Just need to find a bonnet in better condition than mine and a sport wing for the nearside - ideally in Moonstone to save me spraying
Oh and now I have the bug for spraying, I think the grill needs as freshen up and the wheels need some attention too.
Slowly getting there.

So I done a few more bits:
Completed the refit of the swing arms with nice shiny new bearings
Suspension all set up.
ABS and brake lines refitted.
Rear brake back plates fitted up, cleaned and painted satin black ready for new shoes and springs.
Front brake calipers cleaned and painted satin black.
Back box cleaned up and painted satin black, tailpipe and trim polished.
Shark fin aerial fitted up and wired up, working lovely.
Door mouldings finished, just got to fit them back on.
De-badged and de-wipered the tailgate.
Replaced old clear crystal rear fog with a new one as it looked knackered.
Grille painted up and ready for its last coat of laquer.
Washer bottle cap replaced.
Still to do before MOT:
Rear drums awaiting new bearing as the cir-clip is a bugger to get out, Grrrrr!!!
Fit brake shoes, drums (once bearings are finally in!)
Replace brake fluid and bleed.
Refit back box and rear bumper.
Replace off side wheel arch liners (3 are split, boooo!!)
Replace 2 tyres and fit wheels.
Check over for pre MOT checks
Wash and go.
Cross all fingers, toes and limbs LOL

Just brakes to bleed and fit the door trims and grille back.
Stuck my C4 VTS wheels on whilst my 17's are on the C4, would have to mod the centre caps but what do peeps think?
