#1: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:48 am ---- basic question, im installing cold cathode (neon) tubes into my footwell and want them to power on and off with the interior light, ive looked at the previous guide to this on here but cannot work out the best place to tap into the wireing to achieve this.
where would be the best place to tap into the interior light wireing, its been suggested the right side a-frame? but im unsure how to get the cover off and dont currently have a haynes manual
thanks for any help in advance
#2: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Danny., Location: PeterboroughPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:50 am ---- So if you drive and leave your door open.... They flash? Hope there not blue
#3: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:51 am ---- flash? why would they flash lol? nah red ones
#4: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:52 am ---- door pillars there is a switch there for the light. can wire them into that.
#5: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:53 am ---- do you mean the push switch that operates on the door opening and closing? could you be more specific
#6: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:56 am ---- Have fun trying to wire that ..
I tried wiring mine to come on when the doors open (I presume thats what you mean by when the interior light comes on).. I failed, as did ExoVyper (Si). I wired mine to every single wire going to the interior light (4 of them: orange, blue, yellow and yellow/green IIRC)
In the end I wired mine to the Ashtray light, as this only comes on with the sidelights and then added a switch, as I doubt Mr. Policeman will be happy if he saw them on whilst driving.
What to you mean by the A-frame? The A pillar inbetween the windscreen and drivers door?

#8: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:11 am ---- haha yeh it does seem to be more hastle then i thought,
everyone seems to be going for the ashtray one, that was my plan b i thought wireing to the door switch wouldent work as its not a straight circuit, the light is controlled by computer, i.e it waits 30 seconds then fades and doesnt just go off when the doors shut.
is it easy to wire them into the ashtray light?
thanks for your help guys
p.s yeh thats what i meant by the a-frame lol
#9: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:18 am ---- A frame AKA A Pillar just pulls out, Just catch the corner and pull.
Ashtray light ... Easy as 30minute job to get it all wired and fitted into place in footwells.
#10: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:24 am ---- thanks tomd0801754 and others, been very helpful. im probs gunna try doing the ashtray thing
(cba messing around with the door thing because it looks like its gunna be LOADS of hastle)
does the ashtray come out easily? DAMN me not having a haynes manual lol
#11: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: tomd0801754, Location: MoscowPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:26 am ---- Open the lid, then pull the lid, it will all come out
#12: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Danw_VVT, Location: Herts/LondonPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 9:31 am ---- as tom said then the light is on the left and just pops out to

It's a piece of p**s to wire them in so when the door opens they come on, mine have been like that for over a year
It's 2 wires, inside the curt light - but you can follow the wire down the A pillar and tap in from there..
Open ze door on come ze lights.. Close the door and off they go..
Cant remember which 2 wires it was though as it was soooooo long ago that I did it
#14: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Ste, Location: Hull -or- The World Of Info CodePosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:05 am ---- Actually f- it, I'm off out to look and get some instructions
#15: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:16 am ---- Its the +12volts constant feed and the bsi earth
Brown wire and the orange.
Blue is the ignition, and the yellow/green is the earth
#16: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Ste, Location: Hull -or- The World Of Info CodePosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:21 am ---- Right, been outside - jesus that was cold!
Wire your live into the Blue wire of the interior light and your neg/ground into the Green/Yellow wire of the interior light (This is on a a mux) the other wire on mine was red which is the ignition live / constant live - you dont need to touch that..
Neons Live Wire -> Interior Lights Blue Wire
Neons Neg Wire -> Interior Lights Green/Yellow Wire

It will be the same, its just Peugeot don't use wire colours, they use wire codes.
So the guy that originally posted might have 4 black wires

#23: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: davieboy86, Location: Kent,Posted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:41 pm ---- I brought a set of LED's from halfrauds that come with two wires, a red and a black, the red for the power, black for earth, I'm looking at going the interior light route, from lees post I'm assuming my red goes to the brown wire and black wire to the orange? ( assuming my wires in the car are the same colours Lee explained it's snowing outside so I don't wanna get wet lol), I'll check in the morning.
#24: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:48 pm ---- Red goes to orange
Black goes to brown.
#25: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: davieboy86, Location: Kent,Posted: Thu Dec 16, 2010 4:12 pm ---- Cheers buddy I'm gonna have a go at this on Sunday because I'm working all week but I wanna make sure I have every thing I need. I'll check my wire colours tomorrow and then figure out where how I'll feed the wiring/ place the bulbs.
Thanks fella much appreciated.
#26: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:10 am ---- Let me know how it goes!
#27: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: davieboy86, Location: Kent,Posted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:23 am ---- Well I had a look behind the A Pillar cover and all my wires are covered so I'll strip em back another time but more than That I have no idea how I can route the wire for the LED's without taking out the whole dash, not sure where I can feed the wire through
#28: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:27 am ---- Interior light - Across the head lining - Down the A pillar - open the door and you can push the wire down the side of the dash - then bring it out at the bottom of the dash underneath the fuse box- then go whereever
#29: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: JDave, Location: Airdrie, ScotlandPosted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:43 am ---- Sounds awfly confusing for me. My lights are still sitting in my cupboard cause I am still shitting it at fitting them
#30: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 11:47 am ---- Come to Sheff and I'll fit them for you
#31: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: davieboy86, Location: Kent,Posted: Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:35 pm ---- 194 miles stopping me from coming lol. I'll follow that guide though on Sunday and see how I go
#32: Re: Interior Light Feed Author: MrrNoName, Location: UKPosted: Wed Jul 13, 2011 7:15 am ---- sorry to bring back a dead thread, but in the end I chose to use LED strip rather then cold cathode tubes, and I wired it into the ashtray light and put a switch next to my airbag switch, looks nice

why? because they're so bright?
i thought you're allowed them aslong as you can't see the bulbs and glow isnt too bright or something
i've no idea what i'm talking about before someone jumps at my throat, thats why im asking
PART II Regulation 11
(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light, except–
(d)light to illuminate the interior of a vehicle
PART III Regulation 27
Restrictions on the use of lamps other than those to which regulation 24 refers
No person shall use, or cause or permit to be used, on a road any vehicle on which any lamp, hazard warning signal device or warning beacon of a type specified in an item in column 2 of the Table below is used in a manner specified in that item in column 3.
11 Any other lamp Used so as to cause undue dazzle or discomfort to other persons using the road.
Hope this helps. It's all open to interpretation but from my point of view as long as it's not too bright or makes driving dangerous, you can have whatever you want lit up inside the car (execpt a joint before some smart a**e thinks of it)
