#1: temperature gauge and some more problems Author: doggydoctor, Location: Wrexham PostPosted: Sun Dec 26, 2010 7:38 am

Hi,
I have had my car in at a dealer to fix a fault with the coolant temperature gauge. It would stay at the lowest point and then after about 30 minutes driving, shoot into the red and the stop light would come on.
The dealer replaced the coolant temperature sensor and the battery. It's had the airbag light on for ages and the indicator stalk drops. The exhaust is also blowing. I know the com2000 ubit and the exhaust need to be replaced, but haven't got the money/time yet.
It's now 3 weeks after the coolant temperature sensor has been replaced by the dealer and I took it for a longer drive today, turns out the same fault is still there.
Could it be because the com2000 unit and the exhaust haven't been replaced yet or is there a different problem?
I am not sure if I would be better of selling the car as it is (obviously making any buyers aware of the problems) or fixing them and then selling it.
Would anyone be interested in buying it with the faults?
It's a 3 door 2002 blue 1.1LX. Interior is in good condition apart from stubborn front seats.

update:
found out it wasn't a faulty sensor, but a faulty connector. Exhaust has been replaced and new com2000 installed. For the first time in 5 years there is no airbag light on the dashboard anymore.
Have any of you disconnected the airbag ecu? I did and it is a pain doing it that way, but at least it didn't blow up in my face.

Now you have working airbags & front seatbelt pretensioners.

Your also ready for the tougher mot in 2012 Wink

Why did you disconnect the airbag ecu? ? ?

I followed the haynes manaul and it said to disconnect the ecu, so I did. I need to get the wheel of again though, so if you think it's not necessary to disconnect it, I'll leave it. Will make it a lot easier.
To my horror the airbag light (but now with the passenger airbag light as well) came on again after about 20 minutes. Switched the ignition of and on again and it was gone again. Any ideas why this happened?

Who fitted the replacement com2000 unit?

Are you 100% sure all the connector plugs are secure & tight?

As long as you shut the BSI down correctly when you disconnect the battery there is no need to touch the airbag ecu connector plug.

Fitted it myself and made sure all the connectors were secure and tight. I am wondering if it's a slightly loose connection in the deactivating switch as I switched that to off and on and the light was off after that.
I'll see what happens on the next longer drive.
Thanks for your advice.

The passenger airbag deactivate switch should only put the passenger airbag warning light up on the dash.

It shouldnt also bring up the drivers airbag warning light.

mmm, it brought up both. Before I changed the com2000 it only showed the driver airbag light. I'll see if it comes on again.
