Is there only one type of 1.4 engine?

8v and 16v.
One is 75BHP and one is 90BHP.
#18: Re: Engine Swap Author: mjsroofing, Location: south walesPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 1:59 pm ---- would it be best to stick with the 8v in this case, wouldn't the 16v need more wiring?????
#19: Re: Engine Swap Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:06 pm ---- I'd probably only notice gains from the 16v tbh. How much would a 16v lump cost generally? Like 2005 onwards.
#20: Re: Engine Swap Author: mjsroofing, Location: south walesPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:10 pm ---- you'll need a donor car i would of thought mate
#21: Re: Engine Swap Author: Dabamash, Location: The car in frontPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:21 pm ---- That's annoying. We'll see. I might make it a summer project and turn the 1.1 into something a little bit more acceptable.
It's a great little car, it just doesn't have the power for the amount of motorway miles that I do.

even more so if your going from 8 to 16v need ECU, loom, ect as afaik it has VVT, I'd also change the gearbox too for easiness.. It's alot easier to get a donor car and do spot the difference before you attempt it, take pictures and notes of all the plugs ect and see what's different so you know what you need to swap over..
Then just strip the rest of the donor car and sell it on probably find it'd be cheaper that way too and you'll come across less problems.
#23: Re: Engine Swap Author: T_bandery, Location: East londonPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:27 pm ---- I a guessing yours is 8v, right?
If so, easiest thing to do is take out just ENGINE out the car and change it for a 1.6 8v, all the wiring on the 8 valvers are exactly the same and also you'll need an ecu from 1.6
For a 16v you'll need to change to change all the looms and a hell lot more.... not worth it tbh, might as well install a GTi engine if you are planning to put in a 1.6 16v
The gearbox from your 1.1 will work fine too with 1.6 8v
#24: Re: Engine Swap Author: mjsroofing, Location: south walesPosted: Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:28 pm ---- why not go for an easy 8v first to see what its like, they are very widely available, 205's zx's all citroens and pug have them.
I probably wouldn't declare it. they're all robbing b******s anyway these days.

An Admin saying this.. Well I never.
Do it mate. We are all here because we like tinkering with cars.
I'll give you 20quid if you put something huge in it, just for the crack. Like a hummer engine or summat!
Pfft, all the admins have their own specialities. Mine happens to be forums rather than cars haha.
I'll put a jet engine in it.
I meant the new bold bit.

Roflmao, I didn't even notice that.
Insurance is f*****g me over so much right now and it's just not on tbh. I don't know what I'll do.
I'll probably end up buying another Aegean Blue 206, but a 1.4.
