#1: Hissing noise in Passenger footwell??? Author: bendonn, Location: Portsmouth PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 8:15 am

Hi everyone, Just after some advice - have a 206 2.0l HDI. There is a hissing noise coming from the passenger footwell, sounds like air is leaking out but nothing that noticable. When applying pressure to the brake it reduces the noise and sometimes stops it. Any ideas what the fault is here and the cost Im looking at to repair.

Thanks in advance.

£119.14 with ABS

Plus labour, unless you do it yourself

It sounds like the brake servo not cylinder. I dont think its anything to worry about after reading some post on here, as long as your brakes are working.

Does it only make this hissing when you apply the brakes and when you take your foot off the pedal?

Thanks for replies guys. Yeh when you hit the break it start making the hissing noise, if i tap the break again it will go quiet - brakes are working fine and it got through MOT but its just annoying me now Sad

Hopefully it's fine as my servo has been doing it for a fair while. Passed two MOTs without any issues anyway

Its the brake servo and it sounds like it is working fine to me. The way to test if its working; Switch off engine, pump brake pedal until it goes hard, hold foot on brake pedal while starting car, pedal should travel towards floor once the engine has started. If this happens its working fine. If your brake servo was not functioning properly you would have a hard to stopping the car under braking, and if it was completely not functioning you wouldnt be able to stop the car!
