#18: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:43 pm ---- I'll remember that
Just find websites and information from the past and save them, or when I find new, save them for future reference
#19: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: xpda, Location: J17 M6 CheshirePosted: Thu Jan 06, 2011 2:55 pm ---- Yes I do that - particularly for problems like this.
I shall post back here to let others know how it goes.

Hate to make my first post a question, hopefully it's a "top of your head" one but I cant find the answer from google.
I was wondering... you can buy used keys from ebay for about £7, if I bought a two button one that's as old as my car (1998 LX) could I program the remote to my central locking and use my existing transponder key for the ignition and probably just cut/snap off the key blade in the remote key.
Many thanks, Lewis (and if anyone has any computer questions i'd be happy to help :P)

You can buy a second hand key off eBay, however you need to transfer the transponder chip from your old key into the new one or buy a new transponder chip and get it coded to match you system.
#22: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: LordFish, Location: Luton, EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:24 am ---- I dont mind using my existing transponder key for the ignition, i assume that will still work, just use the new key as a fob.
Assuming that'll work can i get a more modern looking 206 key or would it be best to stick with one the same age of the car?
Many thanks again x
#23: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:53 am ---- You need the same key as what you currently have, any other key won't work.
What is the problem? Have you only got one key?
#24: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: LordFish, Location: Luton, EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:58 am ---- Sorry, Didn't explain my situation very well.
The car came with 2 keys but neither of them are plip keys, my main goal is to get the remote central locking working, so would buy a key from ebay, program it for car, then use my existing key in the ignition.
Means carrying 2 keys around with me but it'll do till i've paid off my insurance and can start looking at improvements for it
I was trying to check if there's any particular key i'd need to buy or will any 206 key be able to be pre-programmed to the central locking?
Cheers, Lewis
#25: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 12:09 pm ---- You'll need to configure the BSI and locking system to install remote central locking.
Easiest way would be to install a aftermarket central locking system.
#26: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: LordFish, Location: Luton, EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 12:11 pm ---- Even though the car already has remote central locking? there's a bit in the hand book about reprogramming a key...
#27: Re: One Key ... Doh! Author: Lee, Location: EnglandPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 12:14 pm ---- ahh right sorry. You should still need to get the key coded to the BSI tho. As when you look at the configuration, pilp key is listed.
Whats your chassis number? I'll have a look to see if you had one of those keys when it left the factory.
