#1: Noise from alternator belt Author: Taff!, Location: Havant nr PortsmouthPosted: Thu Jan 06, 2011 10:31 am ---- A while back I mentioned I had problems with my alternator belt. Well I had a look at it and now so has a gargae and we have both come back with the same diagnostic and that it's either the alternator or the power steering pump. Tensioners are fine but how can I distinguish which one is the problem? Both freewheels spin freely and don't give any sign of any issues. Don't really know where to go from here really.

Don't really want to douse the alternator completely in WD40 as I don't want to saturate the brushes

if not these 2,then maybe your alten. itself make the noise.
