#1: Please help engine fan not cutting in Author: Mike1987Lee, Location: Birmingham UKPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:21 pm ---- Hello Everyone I am new to the board. I was hoping someone might be able to help with a problem I am having.
I took my Peugeot 206 for its MOT and service just after Christmas. Although it has passed its MOT the garage I took it to expressed concern that during the emmissions test there was black smoke coming from the engine. They fitted a new engine cooling fan because the old one had seized. However the fan was not cutting in. I have been informed that the relays have been checked and there is not a problem there . The fuses in the fuse box were checked and none of them had blown. To try to get the fan to start the fuse box was checked but it was different in terms of the fuse size as described on page 148 of the 206 handbook. I have called the customer care centre and was given public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ as a reference for how to find the details however I have only found the exact same information regarding the engine compartment fuse box that is in the handbook. My garage say that I need a wiring diagram and this may be used to identify what is wrong with the car. My question is does anyone here have a copy of the wiring diagram they wouldn't mind emailing or any ideas how I might get one? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I apologise if this isn't the right place to post this. I noticed on another topic somone else has a problem with their engine fan but it seems that in their case it was an intermittent fault whereas with mine the fan isn't cutting in at all.
Thank you in anticipation

If it does, turn it on and the fan should come on too, to keep the engine temp down. I dont see how you could have you could have had smoke coming from your engine though.

If you call them and as about the part number for the new fan loom, its around £50 if they give you the correct number.
Do try the A/C but my A/C does not kick the fan in either... but I think my gas is gone......

Turns out there was an airlock in the water system which was stopping the thermostat from working (or something like that)
You could try draining the coolant from the lowest point, keeping the reservoir topped up, until you clear the airlock. (Don't forget to add antifreeze again afterwards though, especially at this time of year!)

You clear an air lock by venting the air from the highest point.

By using the points in the pipes which lead to the heater matrix.

Unfortunately my car doesn't have A/C so that wouldn't be able to trigger the fan for me. I will try to get a Low Speed fan resisitor as Damo has mentioned or try to get the thermostat looked at.
Thanks once again for your replies and I will let you know how I get on
