#1: Temperature needle not working... Author: Mike_XS, Location: SouthamptonPosted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 9:38 am ---- I recently changed my dials for lockwood ones, when I put it back together everything works fine apart from the temp gauge.
It does the normal thing at start up where the lights come on and the needle goes up half way, but then it shoots off the scale and drops down to 140ish.
Does anyone know what I've done? When I get time I'm gonna take the cluster apart again and see if moving it up then down sorts it...

Did the same with mine and my petrol dial, for that I filled the petrol to the brim then put the needles on, may not be exact to the mm but best you can do yourself.
Hopefully that made sense lol.

I take it you mean the oil level & temp gauge on the right?
It sounds like you haven't put that needle back in the correct place.

#5: Re: Temperature needle not working... Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:58 am ---- That gauge will shoot up for a few seconds to show the oil level then it should drop down to show the oil temp.
Gonna be trial & error tweaking the needle back in to the right position.

It does that as normal, but then shoots up a second time off the scale and then drops down to around 140. Then as the temp of the oil goes up the needle goes up from there.

Then it should shoot up to show the oil level for a few seconds
The it drops down to show the oil temp.
I reckon you have zeroed the needle in the wrong place
It sounds like it needs moving down a bit, keep tweaking it down & then turn the ignition on to see where it goes to before it shoots up.
#8: Re: Temperature needle not working... Author: Mike_XS, Location: SouthamptonPosted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:07 am ---- How do I tweak it down? While I have the ignition on at the needle is up?
#9: Re: Temperature needle not working... Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:10 am ---- Gently move the needle downwards.
Does it sit on the rest pin with the ignition off?

#11: Re: Temperature needle not working... Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:16 am ---- Just keep tweaking it down with the ignition on till it reads about right.
If the engine is stone cold the gauge should be reading around the bottom lines.
You could get really anal & ask the local mot place nicely to stick there oil temp probe down the dipstick tube with the engine nice & hot then tweak the needle so it reads correctly.
