#1: Fitting coilovers? Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and CatterickPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 7:55 am ---- Anyone got a good how to on fitting coilovers? Thinking of doing some this weekend but cant quite understand how to set them up and how the old suspension comes off?
The trouble im having is that they are height adjustable but i dont know what height to set them too and how you can tell what to set them too? Its just a strut with a spring and a rubber boot and you have to cut the boot i think as its massive and also the spring seat moves up and down and i dont undestand which way to move it to set it up right?

The lower spring platform is your height adjustment.... move it up and you raise the car.... then measure the first one and move the other to the same spot to level the car.... unless your a track fan then you need to add some height to the O/S to compensate for the drivers weight..... now your confused

Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and CatterickPosted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 12:51 pm ---- im not really needing much help i used to do car mechanics at college qualified to level 2 and took plenty of struts out and that its just been a while and i have never had a play with coilovers and just dont understand what height to set it to to start with as i dont want it too low but dont want it too high if you get what i mean :/
and no im not much of a track day guy never really used it on the track its mainly for looks
ill get some pics in a second and see if you can shed some light on what to do with them

why is one of the top bits pushed right in and the other sticks out a lot should they not both be the same?

the silver one is the top spring pan. you will need to use oem top mount
btw, how come it is pink! lol

how will i fully lift the strut then or does it not matter about that?
it said in the instructions with them that i would have to cut it off :/ i dont really want to though tbh so i will take your advice and not cut it off
i understood that i would have to use oem top mount just hope all my bits and bobs are alright like my bearing and that i cant really afford to fork out on new top mounts to fit them to, i should be okay using the old ones shouldnt i? they have only covered 28,000 miles

Have a look in here, Page 15 and 16 roughly. If you've not done the suspension on a 206 they might be helpful. They were from a 'How to' I did on the old 206 info site before it died.

and when you remove the bearing from the spring seat, 9 out of 10 you will distroy the bearing
