Go have a look please as the problems are different depending on what rear brakes you have.

Recent cold weather?? Sounds like the shoes have welded to the drums.

Have you pulled off one morning with the handbrake off and heard a loud clunk? Or you particularly struggled to pull off as if there was some resistance pulling you back, and all of a sudden it went?

Most likely the handbrake cable has been done up to tight.

Both drums need to come of.

Inspect the brake shoes & cylinders for damage / leakage, then a good clean down with brake cleaner.

Make sure the automatic adjuster is working ok, the shoes move freely & nothing is seized up.

Both rear brakes need to be adjusted correctly BEFORE the handbrake cable is finally adjusted.

I've just had a similar issue with mine.

For the past week or 2 if the car has been left overnight or for a long period of time the car wouldn't pull away and the only way to get it to move was to put it into reverse rock it back slightly and the brake's would release with a loud clunk.

I have only had the car since october so had never touched the brakes so on saturday i stripped down the rear brake's only to find that the N/S/R wheel cylinder had a slight leak and that the brake fluid combined with 58000 miles worth of brake dust was forming a sticky mess which was causing the handbrake to stick if left standing for a long period of time.

The parts have now been ordered and should be here tommorow. £57 from brakes international for new rear shoes and both wheel cylinders which i didn't think was to bad.
