#1: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:20 am ---- how much effort and money would be involved in putting either a GTi180, or a mi16 engine in my pug? don't worry bout people sayin its not werth the effort nd stuff im willin to do it! just want to know if there anyone on here that done it or knows where can do it
#2: Re: engine converstion Author: kieron, Location: in the housePosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:32 am ---- 180 would bolt in but you would need the whole loom ,dash loom, clocks , bsi, ecu and the ecu would need unlocking unless the you get the key and reader around the ignition
the 180 is FLY BY WIRE throttle so you would also need the pedal box and also the gearbox is cable operated so all the linkages would need changing
mi16 has been done before on here be a member who put a t16 engine in (turbo mi16 engine) so its not impossible
what year is your car if its multiplexed it will be harder to put the mi16 engine
alot of people will say just buy a gti or 180 but if your wanting a good project go for it
#3: Re: engine converstion Author: Howey, Location: Kings LynnPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:35 am ---- About £1000 to do it properly, if you did most of the work yourself.
#4: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:36 am ---- i don't want to buy a new car just want to put a new angine isn't it i was gonna try gettin a wreck gti 180 (back end crash) nd just take all the bits off i don't mind doing it really i think it would be fun
#5: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:42 am ---- i got a neighber with ramps welding stuff nd all s**t like tht so i mean not gonna be hard for me
#6: Re: engine converstion Author: T_bandery, Location: East londonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:54 am ---- Ecosse do the GTi conversion for £800 and GTi 180 conversion for £1000 exc. parts
It aint a simple job mate, you really need to know what you are doing.....How about buying a really cheap 206 for £300 pound, take all the looms, engine, subframe and gearbox out then try and put everything back in and get it running, if you are successful at that then go ahead with a conversion
#7: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:58 am ---- i do all tht at college lol but i might take it to ecosse

#10: Re: engine converstion Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:13 am ---- why bother to put another engine in?
the TU5 block is quite tunable
#11: Re: engine converstion Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:19 am ---- A 1.6 engine is never going to be as big on torque as a 2 litre though and it's that which makes the car shoot off down the road...

true.
but unless he got massive amount of buget.
1.6 block with cam and ITB would beat the stock 180
#13: Re: engine converstion Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:34 am ---- But not on torque. Might match it on BHP but would be much peakier.
#14: Re: engine converstion Author: BarneyBaloo, Location: ColchesterPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:23 am ---- put a gti6 in there with a xsara 5 speed box
#15: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:30 am ---- well depends how much money its cost
#16: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:33 am ---- i think ill e-mail ecosse . does anyone know if you have to supply the engine and gearbox nd stuff?

Get a list made up from ecosse and buy your own parts
There is another company called Pug1off who are highly rated for this kind of work
#19: Re: engine converstion Author: DJ-, Location: UKPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:02 am ---- Just for reference pug1off offered to fit a brand new engine and supply for £700+vat. that was for a 1.6 8v but I believe they can get hold of others and fit etc so you can get a rough idea from there if that helps.

Never let anybody else work out what you need, the 'experts' can overlook things and you'll get a surprise when the costs go up. Best thing to do is ask on the forum what you need in order to get a wider range of views.

none of the stuff you got would give you real power
ITB conversion+mid-range cam ftw!

John knows
The TU5 106 Gti's can make 180-190 with them
So a TU5s should be abit better with the better head,
And some High Comp should get over 200bhp

#31: Re: engine converstion Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:34 pm ---- well a engine conversion is going to be alot more than cams and a remap lol
#32: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:35 pm ---- true but id rather do tht lol it will be more fun lol
#33: Re: engine converstion Author: Seabook, Posted: Fri Jan 14, 2011 3:07 pm ---- i am confused now.
are you going to do the conversion yourself or are you paying people to do that for you?
#34: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:29 pm ---- depends how much the companies charge
#35: Re: engine converstion Author: jpnavarro, Location: MaltaPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 12:47 pm ---- Don't think such a project would be worth it, through all the problems of changing the actual engine, buying everything, to possible trouble popping up after the engine conversion is done... Easier saving up for another 6 months and buy a new car immediately...
#36: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:28 pm ---- but the point is i don't want another car :/ see this kinda annoys me bout this is most people who waana do stuff like this usually get gunned down buy people sayin nooo its not werth it nd stuff but if people want to do it then give them encouragement bout it , most things are pointless but if people have the heart to do it give them a lil bit of hope
#37: Re: engine converstion Author: Lewis1304, Location: NuneatonPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:31 pm ---- Dont bother dude, tune the engine youve got. its probably the most commonly tuned peugeot/citroen engine or a hybrid of it so parts are easy to get hold of, knowledge is known and you could see around 300bhp from forged internal and turbo etc alot of power for such a small car.
#38: Re: engine converstion Author: jpnavarro, Location: MaltaPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:32 pm ---- true... My point is that i was also interested in doing such a conversion, and the costs and time was was proposed was totally overwhelming... But it depends on your case and your car...
#39: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:34 pm ---- turbos cost to much money tho id rather take mine off the road nd put a gti lump isn't it or something like tht . but i was thinkin bout puttin lightweight flywheel, cam , remap , maifold , injectors, walbro uprated fuel pump on my 1.6 , with a upgraded coolin fan and a alloy radiator
#40: Re: engine converstion Author: XSIcheeseman, Location: OrpingtonPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:35 pm ---- but i know people are gonna be like wats the point its a 1.6 :/
#41: Re: engine converstion Author: Lewis1304, Location: NuneatonPosted: Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:44 pm ---- Dude, I personally thing the 1.6 is a better engine than the 2.0 gti and gti 180. You look at 106 gti's and saxo vts. People get some power out of those!

Why do you need an uprated fuel pump and cooling fan?

you can't compare a 2.0 to 1.6, considering the torque and power power 2.0 still has an advantage. but that doesn't mean the 1.6 is a bad engine.
i would tune the 1.6 or 2.0 lump. but i wouldn't drop a 2.0 lump and then tune it. it is just asking for troubles and $ as well. not to mention gti nowadays are as cheap as chips
