I rang Peugeot last year when I bought the car. They said 80K or 10 years. Mine is a 52 and when I bought had 82K, so knocked a bit off the price. Had mine done soon after.

According to the Autodata book (which the garages use), Peugeot recommend the belt is changed every 80,000 miles under normal conditions, 48,000 miles under adverse conditions. It also says that the 206 engines are 'interference engines', which means that if the belt breaks the possibility of valve-to-piston damage is 'most likely'.

Basically, if you've been giving your engine a hard time Wink the recommended interval is 48,000.

For the cost of doing the job, it's certainly a good idea to get it done if you're worried / suspicious about the belt condition, especially as the damage done by a belt breaking will be expensive...

(Just for the record, the Autodata book I'm looking at is the 2002 edition, which may well be out of date by now. If anyone has seen anything different please let us know!)
