Depends. Unlikely but it probably could. When was it last serviced?

i could swear i have heard a couple of people on here, saying new standard exhaust systems or just back boxes have affect their mpg for the worse

I just removed a 4" slash cut from my 1.4 & replaced it with a 2nd hand standard box, my MPG is now improving! and car feels SLIGHTLY quicker now its got some back pressure!

Well, I used to get 44 miles to £10 @ £1.25pl, so roughly 23mpg (I know..)

I brimmed my tank £55 @ £126.6,, still have half a tank left and have done 194 miles..

havent sat down to work out figures but so far to me that seems better, & the first 40 miles were with the old exhaust!

Cheers

JJ0063/ thats a lot better that aint it. and is that with your standard exhaust? not a gti one or any thing

seems it so far! when my light comes on i'll do the mpg calculations & report back, but yeah im sure i didnt get much more than what ive done now, to a FULL tank before!

it's a standard 1.4 pea shooter exhaust, thinking about cutting tip short & welding the end can from my old exhaust over the top, so in theory still looking like the slash cut but without the noise etc

Im not sure on the make but it was a 4 inch slash cut japcan style, i'll find a pic of it on the car if you like?

that is actually a good idea cutting it off then welding it back on the standard one. it wont look stupid will it.
